WWW, April 2014 - Often, specific sounds in DUB mixes and DJ sets are pretty basic and simple: take the infamous "beep" that features on so many Dub tracks. Another thing is the "DUB Siren", often used in Sound System performances. The excellent INTERRUPTOR WEBSITE offers a free VST Plug In that works, acts and sounds like any other Siren device. Find it out for yourself in this first volume of sampled Dub Siren effects, presented in WAV or MP3 formats.

There are 27 different sound samples in this pack, ranging from short to long. They come "dry", so you will have to add your own reverb and delay as you use the sounds over the music.

As said, they are all created with the free VST plugin offered by the (again, excellent) INTERRUPTOR.ch website. There are, however, certain programs which will not work properly with the plug in and there are several programs and situations that will not let you work with VST so for those instances this first volume of "Dubroom Dub Siren" will serve just well.

Click on "DOWNLOAD" to be directed to the download page from where you can get the sample pack for free, no strings attached. One Love.

DILLINGER - DUB THE WICKED

DILLINGER - DUB THE WICKED
DUBROOM NET LABEL RELEASE

Visit Release Page

WWW, April 2014 - Straight out of the Dubroom studio, this solid Steppers rhythm presented to you in two different Dub mixes, one of which lasts for a full seven minutes. A thunderous bass, fat reverbs and other effects on the drums and just about everything else: not to mention Dillinger as he shares a short message in a heavily dubbed way.

In total, the two tracks last well over ten minutes and these minutes are well deserved when you are into a heavy dubwise experience. As Dillinger says: "JAH at the control! Dubwise selection without objection for your love and affection and we don't need correction". There's hardly a moment when there is not some kind of effect in process. and even though there are several breaks during the mixes the energy stays there.

This two track release is presented as 128/320 Kbps MP3 Files or true CD Quality WAVE Audio, as usual with releases out of the Dubroom Studio. All Rights reserved © 2014 Messian Dread/Dubroom

APOCALYPSE DUB FACTION - JAH NEVER FAIL I
DUBROOM MP3 ALBUM REVIEW

READ REVIEW, GET THE MUSIC AND MORE

WWW, April 2014 - Opening up with a very fine vocal and Dub carrying the voice of Rueben Addis (Unitone Soundimentional whose very fine "Zion Chant", released by DUBKEY.Com was also reviewed in the Dubroom), Jah Never Fail I is another crucial release by the Maltesian Net Label. The Apocalypse Dub Faction, no stranger to long time visitors and readers of the Dubroom, brings us 14 titles of pure UK DUB and ROOTS you just can't refuse. Read and download n.o.w.!

Rueben Addis is not the only vocalist featured on this release: Kenny Knots and Prince Alla join in and they do not dissapoint at all. The simple fact that everything recorded was recorded roughly between 2000 and 2005 simply shows another fact: this is music for all times and seasons and those who love their drum and bass vibrations simply know what to do with the album.

WWW, April 2014 - Those who know their UK DUB and ROOTS business when it comes to production and Sound System, should not need to be introduced to the UNITONE SOUNDIMENTIONAL. Rueben Addis has been running the Sound since the start when he joined Mixman who was then setting up his Blakamix productions back in the early 1980's.

Net Label DUBKEY.com's first release of 2014 carries singers as well: Zebby Blax, who provides us with the opening track for example. Together with a fine accompanying Dub by Rueben Addis, that is. Hatta Benji is there too and Sis Dinah, adding the Roots Daughter vibe.

WWW, April 2014 - Jah Rootikal knows his Reggae. Jah Rootikal knows his Dub. Jah Rootikal knows his Steppers! With his self-titled début album, the UK based producer delivered a magnificent piece of artistical work. Or should it be: works? Twelve titles filled with love for the music, love for the sound, love for the Dub. One Love!

For the music on the album, Jah Rootikal got together with a number of musicians he knows from his long time involvement in playing and producing music. Vocals, melodica, conga, nuff stuff. The result: a combination of played and programmed materials, everything skillfully mixed into Dub works in the UK Dub style avant la lettre.

Radio Dubroom 2014 Chapter 3: Sounds of the Singers and Players of Instruments

SOUNDS OF THE SINGERS AND PLAYERS OF INSTRUMENTS
RADIO DUBROOM 2014 CHAPTER 3

READ ON, CHECK PLAY LIST, DOWNLOAD PODCAST (128 or 320 KBPS)

WWW, April 2014 - An ultra rare 12" by Misty in Roots, an equally out of print and hard to get 7" by Brimstone and a perhaps even more rare DUB from the online community by Kwame: just three highlights out of the third chapter of Radio Dubroom 2014. Over one and a half hour of heavyweight sounds of the Singers and Players of Instruments, including the mixing board.

The set opens up with a selection of older UK Roots Reggae and DUB. As the history of Reggae in the UK is as old as the music itself, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to find out all kinds of historic recordings that have gone lost in the memory holes of just too many people. Misty in Roots' excellent 12" "Salvation (Discomix)" and Brimstone's 7" "Final Judgement/Final Dub" are two of them.

DONE FE - JERICHO 12''

DON FE - JERICHO 12''
DUBROOM REVIEW

More Info

WWW, April 2014 - The first batch of vinyl was sold out quite easily, and not without reason: here are four tracks by the great producer DON FE by Steppas Records and they have a story to come with the music!

The opening, "Jericho" has server as an exclusive for the well known Channel One Sound System for quite a while. They've used the tune during festivals like Nottinghill Carnival, a highly popular event for the lovers of Roots Reggae Music. Listening to the tune, you can imagine it going through the speakers of one of the best Sound Systems and shaking the place.

It's an instrumental tune and it needs a Dub counterpart. Yes, it is given: "Walled City". Slightly more dubby than the first take.

The second riddim, or B-side of the 12'' is another massive one by the spanish producer. It has a different vibe but is nevertheless equal as a Dubrockers riddim. Like in "Jericho", there's a flute which is there but not in a boring way at all. This is a good addition to the solid drum and basslines.

These four upfull tunes, joyous and solid in the same time. Again,no wonder why the first vinyl batch was sold out. A fine release by the relatively new STEPPAS RECORDS LABEL.

WWW, April 2014 - As part of the Dubroom 2014 Website Renovation project which was recently completed, the Dubroom's MP3 review subsite mp3.dubroom.org has underwent a massive upgrade in lay-out and contents.

Yes, it was time again: too many dead links and thing. About 200 podcasts were reviewed but only 111 remained. Too many single tracks were gone as well, and not only because of the demise of IODA. Artist pages removed, even album pages.

It was time again, also to include mp3.dubroom.org in the new look and feel of the Dubroom. Sure, all ads had been removed already but the navigation and lay out was still a bit different. This has been totally adjusted now and mp3.dubroom.org is integrated in the rest of the Dubroom website.

WWW, April 2014 - Three years after his debute album, Uptown Rebel returns in the year 2014 with a heavyweight nine-track DUB album. With collaborations by Dub Machinist, Sammy Gold and Zion UK, Random Road has become a more than pleasant work of DUB Art.

Electronic DUB Art, that is. In a Roots Reggae Style.

The opening track, featuring Sammy Gold at the microphone is an easy going One Drop style Roots tune, with conscious lyrics for your heart and soul to meditate upon. During the massive Dub version, for example. Bredda Sammy surely has a message for each and everyone to take heed while Uptown Rebel has the riddim and the Dub mixing skills to accompany it just in style.

Messian Dread meets ZionTrain - Dub Selections EP

MESSIAN DREAD MEETS ZION TRAIN - DUB SELECTIONS EP
DUBROOM NET LABEL RELEASE

Visit Album Page

WWW, April 2014 - Lost, but found and added with extra mixes: here is the musical result of the Dubroom's review of the Zion Train DUB Selections samples and loop DVD. Created stricktly with Proppellerhead's Reason (Version 3.0) and only a minimum use of additional sounds and instruments, this EP gives a good indication what can be done with the samples but equally provides a nice listening experience for those that love their DUB music.

Four titles and seven different mixes, with more than enough vocal parts, real horns and other instruments. Each with a solid drum and bass line, some of which you might recall from earlier Zion Train releases on one of their labels. The mixing style is obviously Messian Dread's, even though a more or less standard set-up was used for these tracks.

Unlike most of Messian Dread's releases, this one is not copyrighted under Creative Commons. So please do not re-distribute the album as such, but -of course!- feel free to add them to your podcast or radio show or DJ set.

WWW, April 2014 - Those who frequent the Dubroom Message Boards and those who refresh pages they visited before may have noticed that there have been quite some changes on the Dubroom Website. All of this is the result of an enormous renovation project that led to a new look and the removal of all advertizements.

Frankly: it was about time. Some parts of the Dubroom website were left untouched for years and had a lay-out which in the meantime you could give the label "ancient". Yes, we are living in an era wherein we can speak about ancient history of the Internet... Enfin, a serious project had to be launched and today (April14, 2014) it's time to announce the completion of it.

Let's take a look at the major changes and improvements.

THE PROPHETS RIDE AGAIN
RADIO DUBROOM 2014 CHAPTER 2

Go To Chapter

WWW, April 2014 - Serious DJ chanting by Tappa Zukie, Prince Fari, U Brown, Dillinger and Trinity. Essential singers , too: Michael Prophet, Linvall Thompson, Prince Alla, Junior Ross, Cornell Campbell, Horace Andy as well as Yabby You and the Prophets (who gave the title to this chapter). That is, next to the necessary heavyweight DUB mixing by none other than King Tubby, Prince Jammy, Ernest Hoo Kim and others. This is the second chapter of Radio Dubroom 2014!

The second part is reserved for the DJ's. Roots and culture, chant it out and chant it loud loud: this is what Tappa Zukie, U Brown and other are doing and they are doing it on some heavyweight DUB fe true.

Heavyweight DUB is the topic of the third part: steppers and one drop rhythms with thunderous bass lines and skillful manual DUB mixing. This is not old skool style, this is old skool!

The last and fourth part of the set is a combination of singers doing their work and the DUB engineers doing the same: That's right: time for chapter and version, Discomixes, A and B sides combined. Horace Andy, Prine alla, Junior Ross and Cornell Campbell are there.

JOE FERRY - CONNECTED: MOB STORIES AND REGGAE RIDDIMS

JOE FERRY - CONNECTED: MOB STORIES AND REGGAE RIDDIMS
DUBROOM REVIEW

More Info

WWW, April 2014 - He won a Grammy award multiple times, and that's just for his musical works. His teaching and writing skills have not gone unnoticed either. Talking about Joe Ferry, dr. Joe Ferry: widely acclaimed bass player and record producer as well as talented writer. But this is about the music. Music with King Tubby and Augustus Pablo to be precise.

We're talking about "Perfida DUB", unmistakably a Jamaican Roots Rockers tune from the seventies. A Dub carrying King Tubby's mixing skills as well as musicians playing in ways that super stars can only dream of. 555 Crown Street carrying the works of Augustus Pablo is a true classic, needs no introduction or description other than the remark it is present on this album. Which says a thing about Joe Ferry!

Of course, these two tracks are appetizers. Appetizers for what is coming. And what is coming is more fat DUB and Reggae in the Roots tradition. Solid riddims, excellent works by the musicians and the engineer, matching perfectly with the classic historic recordings on "Connected". You'll even hear resemblances of Black Uhuru recordings in the guitar play ("Unwind" by Menace).

It's not only Dub even though the album is truly all about the Dub. There's a vocal track by Uzimon and The Dons called "Don't Go Bang", a thing which makes you realize something about the title of the album. Makes you want to listen to the Dub of the track as well... There's Victor Rice again (reviewed at mp3.dubroom.org), bringing you "Bango" which is kind of a hybrid between Dub and a vocal track. There's the Big Ska Band with a Dub that could be taken off a secret Dub album by the Skatalites.

If Joe Ferry's "Connected: Mob Stories and Reggae Riddims" resembles anything of the book that this release accompanies, you might want to check that out as well. The album surely brings that upfull yet intense vibe only Reggae Dub can bring especially when it is played in, as said, the Roots Tradition.

DUBROOM REVIEW

WWW, April 2014 - Bass player and producer Joe Ferry has been in the business of Reggae music for many decades. He's been there, done it. Four tracks on a limited 12" released in 2014 to give you a taste of the crucial stuff he is/was involved in!

The 12" opens up with an old skool Dub by yet another expert in the discipline: Victor Rice. Second tune has a title we will not repeat here, but needless to say that here we have another analogue Dub in true old skool style.
The B-side carries another two tunes, with some fatter bass and more intense mixing. The Channel Tubes playing a solid Roots riddim with skillful effects on the bass and organ play Jackie Mittoo style. The Dons closing off with "Satta Big Dub": four minutes of Old Skool mixing in ambient style if you know what I mean.
