"TOMORROW..." (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 30 2009 - Tomorrow is the first day of December, which means that Jah Willing we'll start not just with the evaluation of this last calendar year, but also with our Mikey Dread Special which lasts throughout the whole month.

It will also be the last month of our series "Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews". Don't think this is the end of the flood of free and legal MP3's, though. There's just too much material left unreviewed and I surely hope to eventually have it all mentioned on the Dubroom.

By the time you read this, unless you read this on the on the Dubroom's pre-publication forum, all the work and preparations for the month of December should have been finished, leaving me with a lot of time to maintain the site at those places where that maintained is necessary!

One Love, Give Thanks,

TICKLAH - WANT NOT (DUBROOM ONLINE MP3 REVIEW)

WWW, November 30 2009 - In "Want Not", Ticklah approaches the sound of that other US Dub sound, created in Wackies Studio's. However, he goes further and has incorporated resemblances of Scientists better Dubs in the 1980's. The striking part is, though, that "Want Not" is not a Dub in the literal sense of the word: there's vocals from the top to the very last drop. But with a mix like this, even the hardcore Dub freaks will want to play this one. And again. And again...

"THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 29 2009 - The process of finding, selecting, and reviewing the best available free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3 files is painstaking.

The first condition, if you will, is the question: Is it (DUB) Reggae (or related)?

The second has to do with the quality of the tune itself. That's where I meet The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Bad and The Ugly are obviously not interesting for people who love (DUB) Reggae and are looking for it.

Basically, I'm only interested in that first category: The Good. This is not just the music that you would find in your better (DUB) Reggae store, it's also the music that you can only find online: the Net Labels.

"IS IT REGGAE?" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 28 2009 - I spend many, many hours to find, select and review the best free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3 files. Quite an experience at times, both positive and negative.

The first thing I have to determine: Is It Reggae?

It's one of the more negative aspects: a lot of music is labeled as "Reggae", where it hasn't got anything to do with the music that we love so much.

Sometimes, there are like derivates or fruits of (DUB) Reggae like certain fusions of Hip Hop and Dancehall, or certain forms of electronic Dance Music, and they just might be selected because of some relevance.

In a way, this also goes in retrospect when it comes to those forms of music that predate Reggae, like Ska and Rocksteady.

"UNDER CONTINUAL CONSTRUCTION" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 27 2009 - The Dubroom is Under Continual Construction: there's always some unfinished sections, neglected even, screaming for at least a little maintenance where on the other side of the site a brand new section is built.

Take the Dubroom Artist Pages, for example. I just had to take it easy building them as other aspects of what I needed to do threatened to not get the attention that they need.

The list of sections that need attention is getting kind of huge, though: the video reviews, the website reviews, the studio and that's just three I name out of the blue.

However: first things first, which is the MP3 portal. This has -at this moment- the biggest attention.

"A KINGLY ADVICE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 26 2009 - The Dubroom Online MP3 Review for today personally was a soul-toucher, I was very much encouraged by the Kingly Advice in the lyrical part of the musical work.

It's an advice which is very much needed in this time, wherein Jah people are under attack by forces aimed at separating the music and the culture it was born and developed in, especially when it comes to the multitudes within Reggae Culture who praise the Creator by His Name Jah.

An advice, not just for those of us who feel it, and therefore who know it, it's even more important for one and ones who seem to have been captivated by these forces, as the Truth will set them free after they get to know Him.

Pray today!

WWW, November 25 2009 - There is no way for me to describe just how grateful I am that a few months ago my personal life has forwarded into some more quiet waters, providing me with much more time than that I previously had.

I was able to keep the site updated, but I wasn't really having the time to engage myself in a studio project or even a research topic. Even so bad, that I had to decline an offer for an interview as I had nothing to say, really.

Now that I'm working ahead with the Dubroom and therefore creating more time, I'm resting in the few hours that I'm not busy doing work on the Dubroom site or in my private situation here.

WWW, November 24 2009 - His talents would show even back in the 1960's when he was a part of the Skatalites who became more or less the Studio Band for Studio One.

Music by the Skatalites would in my idea appeal to lovers of Jazz and other forms wherein the horns play a dominant part.

However: like with so many Jamaican musicians, Tommy Mc Cook was one talented individual who, would he have been born in let's say a different country, probably reached world fame decades ago.

That's why the title of Tommy Mc Cook's track which is featured in today's edition of Dubroom Online is a bit noteworthy to me.

A green mango must ripen yet...

"UK DUB REVISITED" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 23 2009 - Like yesterday, today's edition of Dubroom Online features Love Grocer and the Power Steppers. Like yesterday, this column is about UK DUB.

Stricktly Dub, this time.

Love Grocer released quite a few instrumentals, but they definitely know just how to mix up a crucial Dub. After all, one of the members started his carreer in the UK based Conscious Sounds studio, known from Sentry and Jah Warrior to name just two.

Power Steppers are stricktly Dub anyway, and their releases are a welcome contribution to the already crucial and impressive catalogue of DUB and Roots Reggae produced on the island in front of the European Continent.

UK DUB is here to stay, and the Dubroom will, Jah Willing, continue to review the best online available free and legal music.

WWW, November 22 2009 - Starting today until November 30, Jah Willing we'll feature one free and legal MP3 file a day from the UK based Reggae and Dub duo Love Grocer.

"KING TUBBY'S DIGITAL PRODUCTIONS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 21 2009 - Most people, including myself, would associate King Tubby with DUB and mainly 1970's Roots Rockers productions. But when he died in the late 1980's because of violence, he was working really hard to get his own studio where he could actually record musicians.

That's not all, as today's Dubroom Online MP3 Review shows. King Tubby was, in contrast to many people who are fan of his works in the 1970's, not allergic to drum computers and other digital devices at all!

Gregory Isaac's "Warning" was one of the first digital productions by King Tubby's, a genre where the Godfather of DUB was developing himself in at warp speed.

Unfortunately, a bullet would end the life of the man who gave us what many including myself call the Best Music In The World: DUB.

WWW, November 20 2009 - Mikey General and Zyon High: two artists of which the Dubroom reviewed free and legal MP3 files, downloadable straight from the Dubroom's download pages.

The music is Contemporary Roots, you could also say: "Now Roots".

It is not without reason, that the Dubroom utilizes this term to describe new or recently released traditional Reggae.

Where a lot of people seem to think that Roots are by definition to be seen in the past, in reality (as every biologian can tell us) roots keep on growing and not just in size: also strength is increasingly necessary as the rest of the tree grows too.

Check out the music, and the lyrics, and see once again how Reggae is still strong, still growing Roots.

"REGGAE CULTURE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 19 2009 - Today, we close our featuring of Edi Fitzroy's oeuvre with a great track called "Deep In Mi Culture".

The track made me think about all these times wherein I had to face people who, let's say, never heard Edi Fitzroy's track, especially not lyrically. People who often had names for me which said more about themselves than about me.

They could be people who have been, let's say, unpleasantly confronted with religious systems. They could also be people who have uncovered the true purpose of these systems, which of course is nothing less than to keep people under spiritual slavery. And sometimes, they're people who are slaves to the Politikal Korekteness of the day.

In all cases, however, I see that there is an ignorance when it comes to at least a little understanding of that culture which Edi Fitzroy sings about.

Reggae Culture...

"JAH WILLING..." (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 18 2009 - I have many plans. Plans with the website, plans with the studio, and of course in my private life as well I'm swimming in ideas, plans and hopes.

I'm not the kind of person to wait for the proverbial pie in the sky, the instant supernatural gratification of my often not-so-supernatural desires, when I add "Jah willing" to my ideas.

Still, I think I would be a fool if I wouldn't realize that it is not me who decides anything, in the end. As true as the fact that I did not make those beautiful trees I see when I look outside my window, is the fact that I did not make myself either.

And so, while I'm not having any ideas about pies in skies, I do know that when I do not realize that Jah run things, I'm not having a very realistic perspective on things.

"THE KING OF REGGAE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 15 2009 - Bob Marley has done a lot for Jamaica, for Reggae, and indeed for the people of the world. Especially those that suffer, hungering for righteousness which -as Bob Marley believed- will one day cover the earth.

He's not called the King of Reggae for nothing. As he popularized Reggae by using American musicians who would spice up the Roots music, millions were introduced to a music that would stick with them for the rest of their lives.

Reggae brings comfort to the afflicted, hope to the sufferers, strength to the victims, and motivation for those that actually want to do something to improve their environment.

Raspect is due to the man who rightfully wears the title "King Of Reggae".
