Answering the Critics (5) (Webmaster Column)

Dubroom Online - Edition November 1, 2007

"ANSWERING THE CRITICS (5)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 1 2007 - Basically, what drives the critics of the Dubroom is the fact that this website independently promotes (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness.

We don't bow down for peer pressure, we don't bow down for economical threats, we will expose people who claim to study infiltration methods at universities in order to kill Reggae and Rasta Culture. And we do it for the pure love of this music and culture.

Sure, this love is seen by others as "hate".

Of course, because to them Reggae Music is hate music anyway since so many tunes are diametrically opposed to the Politikal Korrekt Order, whether it be New Age or "Christian".

Give Thanks, One Love,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

MOTOWN MEETS TRENCHTOWN
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, October 2007 - In 40 minutes and 6 titles, Reggae Connoisseur Mick Sleeper shows just what happens when Reggae musicians cover music from a different style.

Motown, short for "Motor Town" is another name for the city of Detroit, in the USA. It was in this city, that Berry Gordy Jr. founded the first recording studio and label to be owned by a black man in the USA. The label became a symbol, and legendary for the many, many soul classics recorded in the studio.

Trenchtown is the name of one of the worst ghetto's in Kingston, Jamaica. And for decades, it has served as a musical center for the Jamaican Recording Industry. Sufferation, survival, Jamaican musicians know what it takes...

Jamaican music is also well-known for it's original forms of adapting and integrating other styles of music. In other words, a Reggae cover version is much more than just a cover version.

The inspiration that came from Motown drew many Jamaican artists to pay tribute to the Detroit studio by covering Soul classics in a Reggae style.

Mick Sleeper gathered six Soul classics, and plays them all together with their Reggae version. Interesting, revealing, remarkable!

Matumbi - Empire Road (Video Review)

MATUMBI - EMPIRE ROAD
Dubroom (DUB) Reggae Video Review

WWW, October 2007 - Centered around Dennis Bovell who would also become known for his production works for Linton Kwesi Johnson, Matumbi was one of the hardest Roots Reggae bands to arise in the UK during the 1970's.

In this video, we will meet Matumbi as they perform for a UK audience back in 1978. While the people dance, the singers sing conscious lyrics over the vibrant music.

The video is obviously very dated, and this has an extra dimension. Some people will recognize the times, as they grow older, while a young generation will love the music and see people dancing to it in a time before they were born.

Whatever the case, be sure to enjoy this classic performance by a classic UK Reggae band.
