"ONLINE DUB ARTISTS (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)
WWW, April 2 2009 - When King Tubby took his first steps in developing the Art that we now know as DUB, he might have had visions where this would all lead to.
Not only did DUB grow out to be a sub-genre of Reggae, the Art went beyond the realms of Reggae and even stood at the basis of what is now contemporary digital dance music, from Hip Hop to Trance and Techno.
DUB was more than progressive, it was beyond it's time. When the Sequencer was introduced in the studio's, somewhere in the 1980's, it was like made for Reggae, especially DUB Reggae.
The very musical nature of Reggae, the music is built on riddims rather than compositions or songs, was unique. But with the coming of digital technology, we can even say that most of today's music is built on riddims, too, even though these riddims do not necessarily have to be in Reggae Style.
