"WHEN RHYTHM WAS KING"
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW
WWW, March 2008 - US Based Reggae label Heartbeat is the official distributor of Studio One, which is a thing you really know after listening to "When Rhythm Was King". Version on Version of the classic sound of the Studio that gave birth to too many riddims to mention.Joshua B, selector of the official Podcast by the Reggae Label, made sure that all disciplines of Reggae are represented in this presentation of Studio One material. Vocal Harmony groups, Singers, DJ's and DUB: it's all there.
The title refers to another release by the label, but in a way there's something to say about it. When you listen to contemporary Reggae and Dancehall, you will find that many of the original Studio One riddims are still used today. So, Riddim is still King.
The unmistakable sound of Jamaica's first recording Studio is perfectly captured in the Heartbeat re-release, and the fact that our host plays Version to Version should give us a hint where to go when we need to listen to that classic sound.
Nice (Studio) One!
