DUBROOM ONLINE EDITION JULY 26-31 2010

FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, July 26 - A must-see documentary on the UK and European Sound System Culture, keeping the Roots Fires burning with some massive Dub. One hour and forty minutes of pure Reggae and especially DUB Niceness, including some very new material from VP Records which is scheduled for release next month. A new Messian Dread tune, and that's not all we got this week.

When there's a theme in this edition of Dubroom Online, it's very evident and very clear: UK AND EURODUB AND ROOTS is the music of this week, with the exception of let's say the first 20 or so minutes of the tenth episode of Radio Dubroom.

In support to the DUBARK.com website, a previously unreleased Messian Dread track called "Vultures (Discomix)" can be downloaded for free, but you have to visit the website first. It surely will not waste your time!

Crucial music in this week's podcast as well: brand new material from Capleton, brand new old stuff from Sizzla, there's Linval Thompson and a crucial selection of UK and EURO DUB and ROOTS, including two tracks by heavyweight Dub Masters Alpha and Omega and three by Vibronics.

"Musically Mad" is the title of an outstanding DVD documentary on the UK and EURO Sound System culture. This is something you should really watch and feel for yourself, because Jah Vibes are spreading and Babylon feel it.

Last but not least: more DUB in MP3 format. Just read the reviews and get the tunes!

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

MESSIAN DREAD - VULTURES (DISCOMIX)

MESSIAN DREAD - VULTURES (DISCOMIX)
A TRIBUTE TO THE DUBARK.com WEBSITE
WWW, July 2010 - In a recent move of supporting the relatively new DUBARK website, you can now download a previously unreleased discomix called "Vultures" when you visit the Dubroom page at www.dubark.com.

The track is a massive riddim, of which the bassline was originally created by Heartical, who can play -as you can hear in the track- some pretty heavy-duty lines and play them on his bass guitar too. The track was often played at performances by the original Jah Roots band from the Netherlands, not one of the several cool bands who have the same name and came afterwards.

The lyrics for the tune are originally written by Messian Dread, and have been a bit expanded for this specific discomix, completely created and produced by Messian Dread in the Dubroom Studio.

As said in the opening paragraph, the tune is uploaded to the relatively new http://www.dubark.com/ website, a "small axe" place for online (DUB) Reggae artists to share their music with other artists and listeners who can comment on the releases. The website is -like the Dubroom- independant and aimed at the promotion of the music that we all love so much DUB and (other) REGGAE. Independance is a form of mystical unity which is simply there and cannot be different.

RADIO DUBROOM 2010 - EPISODE 10

Podcast Picture

WWW, July 2010 - Starting off with some brand new and upcoming releases from VP Records, only to end1 hour and 40 minutes later with some heavy-duty DUB tracks: welcome to another Radio Dubroom selection featuring Capleton, Sizzla, Vibronics, Alpha and Omega plus a whole heap of other Dub and (other) Reggae Niceness.

Radio Dubroom is not about sharing the private (DUB) Reggae collection of the selector, and not just because copyright issues are a major obstacle. The podcast is truly an addition to what is already on the Dubroom, created with the very same challenge that the rest of the website provides for the contributors.

Just like the Dubroom doesn't carry any illegal links, so is all music on the podcast pre-cleared, with the exception of a rare or out-of-print tune which we might play here and there. So we have either explicit permission to play the music on the show or it's simply available free and legal on the Internet. Usually, we will already have reviewed that free and legal material at mp3.dubroom.org, our huge portal filled with reviews of free and legal MP3 files.

The tenth episode of Radio Dubroom 2010 is completely within this concept, too. As we recently obtained permission by VP RECORDS and ALPHA AND OMEGA to play and promote their music on the podcast, this show contains a number of tunes from the label which are scheduled for release next month or so, for example the Greensleeves release of old unreleased Sizzla material or the latest single by Capleton.

After the initial 20 minutes or so in which we play new releases and a release by Linvall Thompson, we continue with a track by the Jamaican based Italian singer Alborosie, who chants down Babylon in a heartical and rootical way because Babylon exiled the Rototom Sunsplash Reggae Festival out of Italy so that the whole thing is now held in Spain (MORE INFO HERE).

With this Alborosie track we enter into another section of the show, which basically lasts through the rest of the podcast. It's a selection of contemporary music from NO MORE BABYLON, VIBRONICS and ALPHA AND OMEGA as well as a host of other DUB and ROOTS producers and artists.

A special part is the mix between a track from the brand new Net Album début by TIBURK SOUND SYSTEM, combined with two poems from Jamaican DUB Poet VIAJAH MORGAN.

When the show ends with a more than crucial DUB track by the Belgian Roots singer Sister Mika, we've heard a couple of hard stepping Dubs of which the Madaski Remix of BR Stylers is definitely noteworthy. Vibronics with three tracks, Alpha and Omega with two: this podcast really starts with cool runnings going over into hot steppers!

MUSICALLY MAD

WWW, July 2010 - A one-hour documentary plus one hour of extra footage, a crucial booklet and a message that Babylon doesn't want the people to hear: this is the Sound System UK DUB and ROOTS Culture which spreads across Europe very quick!

When Jamaican music turned into Dancehall, the Roots sound systems in the UK were in greater need for locally produced Roots Music. There were studio's like Conscious Sounds and Ariwa providing that. Fast forward to 2008, the year in which the documentary was released, we find the Sound Systems and the Labels still struggling to forward the positive message of Reggae Music, this in spite of all the opposition.

With some historical footage and a lot of interviews with a lot of well established names with the Roots and Culture scene, "Musically Mad" is a must-see for everyone who is even remotely interested in the good vibes that true Roots Reggae Dub Music gives. Scenes from actual Sound System performances are combined with talks featuring people like Mad Professor, who genuinely asks himself and the audience just why Reggae Music is not promoted on the radio in the UK, this in spite of all the hard and positive works that the music really is.

This is a short teaser, to give you a little vibe so you know you need to have the whole package!

The Dub is part of a 2007 release by Vibronics, containing artists based in Leicester (UK). Leicester has a lot of different people from different backgrounds, situations wherein Reggae Music plays a more than vital role in maintaining peace and unity among the people.

A pumping steppers, crucial echo's and spring reverberations, this is not just Top Dub from one of the Masters, this is a Top Dub among Vibronics productions fe true!

MIKA FEATURING SEN-C P - WHEN I FALL IN DUB

WWW, July 2010 - Featured in Radio Dubroom 2010 Episode 10, this is over five minutes of pure DUB in the style we know from Ariwa Sound Studio's, the Home of Mad Professor. A tight one drop with continually changing effects, with the vocals of the Belgium based Roots singer.

In fact, the track is taken out of the relatively new album by Sista Mika featuring a whole host of engineers from the World Wide Dub Community. We see Gussie P, but also The Technician (Australia), Dubcreator (Netherlands) and other friends. Crucial stuff, check it out!

VARIOUS ARTISTS - DUB ACT

WWW, July 2010 - the French based "Paris Dub Activitys" Net Label was founded back in 2005 already. Their first compilation "Dub Act" contains eight excellent digital pieces of Dub Masterworks from the French Capital.

Improvisation, even to a Jazzy level. Minimalistic electronica, even to a Techno level. Between these two extremes can only be one thing: DUB. Exactly this, just what Dub can do, can be heard in "Dub Act". Everything is there, there are even tracks you would definitely like to space out to on your I-pod or Hi-Fi.

Merci!

DIGIKAL ROOTS - LET THERE BE VERSION

WWW, July 2010 - Based in Huddersfield (UK), Digikal Roots is an active member of the DUBARK.com community as well as other DUB scenes. His productions are perfectly is the style you would expect from the brethren: hard, digital roots music that just screams to be played at sounds and shows specializing in the genre.

In "Let There Be Version", already his second Net Album, we're being treated with no less than fifteen usually outstanding tracks, full of vibes and full of positive energy. Catchy riddims, nice production, not a thing to ignore. There's a lot of versatily in the riddims, they each seem to come with their own kind of merging of styles even though everything becomes one again in the album.

Great works!
