Dubroom Online - Edition September 16, 2007

WWW, September 16 2007 - Because of the colonial ties with Jamaica, there is a really strong and influential Reggae Culture in the UK. There's even a special style within Reggae called UK DUB and ROOTS.

Militant Steppers, deep deep One Drops, spaced out Dubs and heartical singers form just a few elements of this subculture of Reggae Culture.

It should therefotre not be a suprise to find a UK Dub on a Jamaican Reggae show. It should therefore not be a suprise to find some heavyweight tunes by a UK based vocalist.

But it sure will give another reason to give thanks.

Give thanks for that music which so many people will faithfully call JAH Music: Reggae Music!

Give Thanks, One Love,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

PRESSURE DROP: A JAMAICAN REGGAE EXCURSION
SELECTED BY ANDREW BAUER

WWW, September 2007 - This well balanced 25 track selection shows just how diverse Reggae Music can be, even when it's obvous theme is 1970's Jamaican Rockers and Early Rub a Dub.

The balance is between the known and the unkown. It is between various studio's. It is between various styles. It is between various disciplines, and even locations.

The bulk of the 25 tracks are Jamaican productions, the rest can be counted on the fingers of one hand and you don't even need them all for that. We'll go to the UK for a nice Aswad DUB mixed by the mighty JAH Shaka, we'll visit Bullwackies: the first Reggae Studio to be built in the USA.

Scientist leads the way with a mighty Michael Prophet Dub. King Tubby is there, too, obviously, because he is the godfather of DUB. Ofcourse, the selection presents a wide variety of styles and engineers within the Disciple of Dub.

Horace Andy and Barrington Levy, Junior Murvin and Naggo Morris. The singers are there, too. Just like vocal groups such as The Congo's and The Heptones. There could have been just a little bit more DJ-ing, though...

ELIJAH MAN

When you listen to EliJahman's heartfelt Dubs, you can't help but noticing the similarity with the mighty Jah Shaka.

This is the kind of music you play loud, preferably with some serious subwoofer attached to your sound system. Cause that's when the words really come true, when the vibe really flows!
