FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, June 28 2010 - DUB, Dancehall, Old Skool and Contemporary Jamaican Roots and Rub A Dub: this edition of Dubroom Weekly is filled with no less than seven MP3 files, five Net Albums and a podcast of which all the tracks can be individually downloaded as well. Everything free, and legal, that is.

Personally, I'm happy with the fact that Dubroom Online has gone from a daily to a weekly basis. Of course, it has to do with some personal circumstances, which I hope to be able to talk about soon live and direct but that's a thing for a later edition. For now, I hope that you will like the reviewed material of this week.

This week's podcast is also something special. It contains a selection of stricktly Jamaican Rockers and Rub a Dub. With the exception of one, all the riddims were recorded in the 70's and 80's and there's a couple of hits from that time included as well. Each individual track can be downloaded as well, free and legal that is. This is definitely a Podcast which will appeal to those who prefer their Old Skool over contemporary (even though I think that such a thing is being blind for the crucialities of today which is proven in the last track, but that aside).

This week's edition of Dubroom Online also features contemporary Jamaican music, both Roots and Dancehall. Chrisinti, for example, a crucial vocalist whose versatility is showcased in the album "Again", of which you can download no less than three tracks. Or the BOOK OUT Riddim, a hard hitting Dancehall tune which also comes with three free and legal MP3 files.

On top of this, there's some nice EURODUB by I-Plant, Manutension and the Spanish based Hot Drop Reggae Band, as well as a musical world tour by the American multi-instrumentalist and Dub engineer Ras Amerlock.

Hours and hours worth of material, everything available for free and legal download.

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

DUBROOM RADIO 2010 - EPISODE 6

JAMAICAN GEMS

WWW, June 2010 - In what is already the sixth episode of Radio Dubroom 2010, we play a selection of stricktly Jamaican Rub a Dub and Roots Rockers styles.
An All-Star list of artists in a selection of All-Killer-No-Filler riddims, every track reviewed and available for free/legal download at mp3.dubroom.org!
When the show opens up with an instrumental of the Under-Mi-Sensi riddim, made popular by Barrington Levy, the tone is set for the rest of the show. We're going into a selection of stricktly Rub a Dub and Roots Rockers Reggae from Jamaica, with almost all tunes recorded during the later part of the 1970's, early 1980's.
There are singers and players of instruments, there are deejay's and Dub engineers as well.
With names like Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Scientist, Prince Jammy, Jah Stitch and Mikey Dread, it's obvious that we have some true gems playing through the speakers. There's classic hits like Tenor Saw's "Golden Hen" and The Ovationz' "Shy Girl", the second one coming with a more than pumping Dub version attached.
All the played tracks are available for free and legal download at mp3.dubroom.org, where each track is reviewed as well. Get the tracks, but even better: when you like a specific tune consider purchasing the album and support the artists as well as the Dubroom.

MANUTENSION - TRIBUTE TO KING TUBBY

WWW, June 2010 - Unfortunately, Manutension is -just like King Tubby- no longer with us physically. His music lives on, though, and in this four-track DUB RIDDIM EP we can get a touch of that.

Manutension was part of the well-known French based Improvisators DUB Collective, worked with UK greats such as Vibronics and vocalists like Winston McAnuff, his music has pumped though the speakers of many sound systems.

In this Tribute To King Tubby, we're being treated with four different mixes of a hard stepping riddim based on the well-known Horn Theme of the riddim that gave us tunes like "Money, Money, Money"...

Nice One, a hard hitting steppers in true EURODUB Style.

DUB MACHINIST AND I-PLANT - NO SMOKING AREA

WWW, June 2010 - No Smoking Area is a Riddim EP in the DUB sense of the word. I-Plant, Hatman and Gary Dub are just three names who have showcased their work on the riddim and these names should ring a bell to those who know their EURODUB and their NET LABEL DUB.

More than niceness, this is definitely not the kind of music which would make a No Smoking Area occupied with slaveish followers of the next anti-smoking law in some or another country. This is the kind of music that makes the heart and soul of every lover of DUB rise up in joy.

Can't refuse!

HOT DROP - IT'S A REMIX THINGDUBROOM MP3 ALBUM REVIEWBand Website
WWW, June 2010 - Get six different Dub engineers from all over the world to each do a track created by the Spanish based Roots Rock Reggae band Hot Drop and you get some very surprising material. After all, It's A Remix Thing.
The surprising element is of course the fact that the Spanish band has made a name with some more than crucial Roots Reggae releases in true Old Skool style from instruments to recording to mixing. That is something which you should not expect on this one, at least not from the top to the very last drop.
The Remix thing basically shows what can be done with old skool material when it is processed using contemporary techniques and styles. Styles such as Dubstep and Hip Hop. There's definitely material there for the Dub purists but It's A Remix Thing predominantly features Dub Fruits rather than Roots. Which isn't bad: It's A Remix Thing, after all...

WWW, June 2010 - Hot Drop is one of the hottest Reggae Bands in Europe, especially when it comes to Net Label releases. In "The Secret Dubs", we're remembered on the fact once again.

Unfortunately, there are only six titles in this release from the "A Quiet Bump" Net Label. Six very impressive tracks, that is. The mini album closes of with a digital remix by Jambassa, but that's only after we've experienced five crucially mixed and played DUB tracks in true Old Skool style.

After the tracks were recorded, they have gone all over the world from Brazil to Italy where they were mixed into the crucial tracks that we can hear after downloading the album for free. This is stuff you can't refuse and still maintain you love DUB Reggae.

RAS AMERLOCK - 2010 A BASS ODDITY

WWW, June 2010 - "Songs from the first decade of the 21st Century", Ras Amerlock writes about this 2010 release which signifies itself through it's old-skool approach of the Art of Dub.

In fact, the album basically contains a number of previously unreleased material by the American multi-instrumentalist and Dub engineer who has been working in the field of Reggae for quite a while now. Let's just mention the fact that he was a part of what was one of the first DUB oriented Net Labels: Jahtari.

Eleven titles, all of which get the very same dubwise approach. An approach we could easily recognize as old-skool even though there is some recognizable digital technology involved as well. Who cares: the result is what matters.

Eleven titles, all which give a good overview in the musical progress of Michael McCutcheon. A musical progression which is confirming his past productions and creating positive expectations for the many more releases which are hopefully to come from Ras Amerlock.

FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, June 21 2010 - Greetings, and thank you very much for your interest in this edition of Dubroom Online. I hope, that you will not be disappointed but that can hardly be when you take a look at what is reviewed and available for download!

First of all, there's another edition of Radio Dubroom. A very special edition as all of the tracks are available for download and the links are provided in the description that comes with the podcast. A truly wide variety of styles is presented in the selection as we keep on jamming from Brazil to New Zealand to Europe to the USA and many more places.

Looking for contemporary Jamaican music? There are 6 free and legal MP3 files waiting for you to be downloaded to your hard drive and into your player: Determine, Luciano and three other artists are represented with Dancehall and Roots.

Three full-length net albums and one EP are reviewed in this edition of Dubroom Online as well. A crucial release from Germany, very interesting material from New Zealand and Roots and Culture from the Netherlands in the form of Rasta singer Ken Dread.

All-in-all, there's enough new music to keep you moving and grooving for several hours and the best of all is the fact that this is available freely and legally, wherever you are in the world. At least, that is how it should be...

Let's keep the sufferers in our prayers, let us not forget the fact that Reggae Music is there to lift up the people with righteousness and consciousness.

Jah Seh So, without apology.

WWW, June 2010 -?Jamming The World Wide Web: this is a selection of some of the best material available for free and legal download on a wide variety of websites. From Dancehall to UK DUB, from Old Skool Roots to Contemporary Roots, with vocals and versions, this is by far the most varied podcast thus far.

The show starts off with two dubs, the first one taken from the brand new release DUB FRESH AIR by the Italian based Net Label 4WEED. The second one is taken from the DEMO'S AND REMIXES IN DUB.
Net Labels are everywhere, including Brazil where we find a nice collection of Dancehall Dubplates with well known Jamaican Vocalists by producer Mykal Orthodox on the Cabeza Label. We play a tune with Burru Banton and one with Bounty Killer.
From the Spanish based NEBLINA SOUND we play a jungle version of their Operator riddim, followed by some more Spanish vibes with Flamenco Dub by Utterance, taken from the DUBNIGHT compilation available on the German based BIGVIBEZ.com website. From that same website, we play two tunes by the German based Reggae band Firetime, a well known Riddim Section who played with too many vocalists to mention.
ALAMBIC CONSPIRACY AND FAIZA with their excellent ME SEE YA taken off the ITALIAN DUB COMMUNITY SHOWCASE VOLUME TWO are taking us further into a next section of the show. They're followed by KEN DREAD's excellent track ONE LOVE (same title, different tune than the BMW track) and "Midnight DUB" from PARVEZ aka House Of Riddim, the last one taken from DUBNIGHT VOLUME ONE.
The show reserves almost twenty minutes for two more than excellent vocals and their dubs by the Spanish based HOTDROP band. Taken from their brand new "DIS(COVER) SHOWCASE" album for which they only used stricktly old skool hardware to produce, two crucial renderings of soulful old skool Roots Rockers Reggae.
In closure, we pay a short visit to the French based DUB CULTURE website where you can find a fine selection of contemporary Roots and DUB by a number of known, lesser known and unknown artists. Radio Dubroom plays Earl 16's "Give Me Good Sensi", a Zion Train production and an upfull, majestic Dub by Malone Rootikal.

When you don't understand German, you will still be able to feel what they are talking about: it's all in the music. As you can hear in Radio Dubroom 2010 #5, it's all about tight music, crucially recorded and voiced, and subsequently offered for free to the online Reggae Massive.

DUB TERMINATOR - DEMOS & REMIXES IN DUB

WWW, June 2010 - DUB Terminator hails from the deep, deep south: New Zealand, to be exactly. In Demo's and Remixes in Dub (featured in Radio Dubroom 2010 #5), he presents 15 tracks of Dubs and Discomixes in a very special style that mixes Dancehall, Reggae and more R&B related vibes.

According to his biography at MYSPACE.com, the musical philosophy of the Dub Terminator was significantly formed when he was living as a youth in Jah Creation, far away from the so-called "civilized" world. All he was doing was developing his musical talents which led him to become member of many bands before he found himself as the Dub Terminator, terminating all the bad vibes and provide the online massive with some very inspirational sounds.

WWW, June 12 2010 - Currently, there's a world-crisis and this is not bypassing the European continent either. Last week, there was elections in my country (The Netherlands) and as I write this Belgium is going to the voting boxes too.

Not everything in Europe is bad these days, though. This week, Dubroom Online focuses on EURODUB and Roots Music, as the title of the podcast that comes with this edition already indicates.

But that's not all. Most of the MP3 tracks reviewed are produced on the European continent too. No less than four Net Albums which can all be considered necessities in the collection of every self-respecting collector of free/legal (DUB) Reggae Music!

Enjoy Eurodub and Roots!

EURODUB AND ROOTS

WWW, June 2010 - As the title indicates, in this episode Radio Dubroom presents a selection of European Dub and (other) Roots Reggae. A selection of strong combinations of vocals and their Dub counterparts, Discomixes and spaced-out Dub tracks.
The show starts off with an oldie from the golden days of MP3.com. Italy-based Dubware was heralding the then upcoming movement of the Italian Massive, of which we can get a taste in the excellent “Italian Dub Community Showcase” compilations of which a couple of tracks are played too later in the selection.
Nucleus Roots and No More Babylon continue the start and take us into a selection of Discomixes, some time in really deep Dub, only to come back with a couple of vocals and versions after which we hear two joyful Dubs.
From the archives, Episode 4 continues with a fine selection of some crucial tracks produced by DUBCREATOR from Amsterdam, voiced by different vocalists and crucially mixed by the heavyweight DUB Champion from the Netherlands.
This selection of Eurodub and Roots closes with two UK based names: Steve Vibronics and the Tassilli Players, cooling down the tempo in order to prepare us for an easy landing.
Enjoy!

WWW, June 2010 - Mastered and released by the Italian based 4WEED Net Label, and freshly released on the Web: DUB FRESH AIR VOLUME 1. Eight superb, splashing DUB tracks from the Polish based Dubmassive website and community.

Dubbing Is A Must, a thing which definitely goes up for the Eurodub Movement which gained in strength and quality throughout the last 10 or so years. The Internet, a love for DUB and the fall of the Iron Curtain are the three major ingredients out of which this Movement came into existence.

This is how an Italian-based Net Label can come in contact with a Polish Dub Community and present the (warm) music to the rest of the world, after mastering the eight different titles so that they all perfectly join together in this compilation. This is how we can get ourselves acquainted with all the creativity, originality and authenticity Jah has put in the souls of the artists on DUB FRESH AIR VOLUME ONE.

WWW, June 2010 - In this free 2010 release, we meet up with the Madrid-based Hotdrop Band who went into the studio to play, record and mix some very upright stricktly old skool style Reggae straight into the 8-track tape recorder.

You simply can't afford to miss out on this album: soulful, vibeful, and definitely more than just giving a retro-sound even though the tracks could have been all recorded "back then".

"Back then", when other versions of these very same songs were released. The title says it: This is a Cover Showcase with every track perfectly played in Hotdrop Style. FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, June 7 2010 - The characteristic map of Italy is one of the most recognized in the world and it's not on the cover for this week's edition of Dubroom Online for nothing.

First of all: the two editions of the Italian DUB Community compilations don't just give a perfect insight into the growing DUB scene in Italy, it brings the listener an enormous collection of almost 70 crucial (DUB) Reggae tracks, all for free! Add on top of that the other Dub release by Dub Engine from Bologna and you know why the Italian map is on the cover this week.

Then, there is the third edition of the Radio Dubroom podcast which I personally feel much better about then about the second one. It starts with a selection of contemporary Jamaican Roots Reggae t6racks, only to go over into some crucial selections from the Italian DUB scene, as well as Poland, France and Spain.

You might like the Versionaries, when you're into listening just what Reggae does with other styles and vice versa. The Sydney-based collective surely know their Reggae and they love their Reggae too, as we can hear in the three tunes you can download in this edition of Dubroom Online.

DEEP ROOTS AND FRESH FRUITS

WWW, June 2010 - The third episode of Radio Dubroom in this year of 2010 has two segments: we start with some Jamaican Roots Reggae and then turn to Poland, France, Italy and Spain for some very deep Dubwise.
Jamaican Roots Reggae is, unlike some people claim or think, not dead at all. In fact there's some pretty strong material coming out, increasingly during the last years. The first nine titles are all reserved for a musical illustration with this statement. Most tracks are reviewed in mp3.dubroom.org.
No More Babylon's crucial Discomix with the crucial vocals of Kenny Knots marks the transition to the second segment of the show, which contains a very interesting selection of High Quality Deep DUB from the Online (DUB) Reggae Artist community.
What to say about Italy's Moa Anbessa? Crucial stuff from the producers who work with the UK based Zion Train collective. Deep electronical Roots DUB from Dub Engine, Dubalizer and Big Family show that there is indeed Roots in electronic music as it is always the people who make the music.
The final track of the podcast, from the Spanish based band Hot Drop, closes of what was a selection of Deep Roots and Dub, deep as in: conscious lyrics, fat bass: authentic Reggae music in two of it's many forms!

Moa Anbessa is a DUB collective from Italy, whose collaborations on stage and in the studio with UK based Zion Train can be heard back in the style of the opening title of the album (also featured in Radio Dubroom 2010 Episode 3). Moa Anbessa's "What A Day" is one crucial opening track and what is even nicer: it's a track which truthfully promises a level of quality which will stand throughout the rest of the album.

WWW, June 2010 - The second collection of the more than great works by the Italian DUB Community is greater than part one, if only because this is not even a double-album but a triple -album!
It's greater too, because there is a greater number of styles and vibes on this release. There's much more variety in styles, but definitely not in quality. The Roots is there, really there.
It's a Showcase: Every track comes with a vocal and a Dub. With a few exceptions, they all come seperated in Chapter and Version style. Every track is especially mastered for the release, a release for which we not just give thanks, a release for which we say:

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

DUB ENGINE - DUB ENGINE

WWW, June 2010 - The DUB Engine is based in Bologna (Italy) as a project by producer Nicolo Tucci and female vocalist/percussionist Sabrina Ferro, who also plays flute here and there.

Yes, this is an Italian release even though you hear German too (Ganja Dubfire). But that doesn't matter: the album opens up with an enlish sung tune with excellent Dub version (also featured in Radio Dubroom 2010 Episode 3).

The DUB Engine is in several ways interesting. It contains a number of styles which derived from Dub, somehow incorporated back into the original concept of Dub. There's a huge variety, not every track will appeal to everyone but every track will definitely appeal to some ones.

Niceness!
