MUDIE'S MOOD: A HARRY MUDIE TRIBUTE
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW
WWW, February 2008 - In the 1950's, long before there was such a thing as "Rasta Reggae" or even "Reggae", Jamaican producer Harry Mudie started recording the Rasta music of Count Ossie.
A tribute to a man and his carrier!Harry Mudie's carrier is truly long-lasting. After initially starting a Sound System in the 1950's, he shortly went to the UK to get education in electronics and subsequently founded his own club in Jamaica.
Not only was he the first to record Rasta Music, in a time wherein the word Reggae was yet to come into existence, he is also said to be the first producer to use string on Reggae Music.
Mudie has a number of classic riddims written to his account as well. The magnificent "Drifter" Riddim, for example.
Still, the name of Harry Mudie is not widely known, not even among Reggae Lovers. And this is where the crew behind the Melodies Of War podcast try to make a change, for which we give thanks.
MUDIE'S MOOD contains an interesting selection of productions, mostly of them from around the early 1970's, late 1960's. Mostly, but not solely: the show ends with a digital stylee, a hint towards the impressive length of Mudie's carrier.
Singers and Players of Instruments, DJ's and DUB engineers all give acte d'presence in 43 minutes of upfull Reggae Music that will definitely please the lover of a better style of Reggae Music.
