DUBROOM (DUB) REGGAE NEWS AND VIEWS
WWW, March 2008 - Last March 15 was a sad day for friends, family and fans of Michael Campbell aka Mikey "Dread At The Controls" Dread. It was on that day that the first Jamaican Reggae Radio DJ passed away...
Mikey Dread was born in 1954 on June 4 in Portland, Jamaica. At age 54, he lost a battle against brain cancer and died in Connecticut, USA.
He was the first to take Reggae Music to Jamaican Radio Station where for years he had his own "Dread At The Controls" Radio show. Just recently, that show was more or less re-launched on the Internet and has been reviewed by the Dubroom.
The many jingles produced for the Dread At The Controls show are still used by broadcasters, Podcasters and artists until this very day, including the Dubroom's own Messian Dread.
The brother also toasted and produced many tracks for his own Dread At The Controls label. Classic tunes by Mikey Dread are "Barber Saloon", "Propper Education" and "Israel Style".
It's too sad, that we have to say goodbye to the one and only Mikey Dread, knowing that there are people who use his name to make themselves some fame, and knowing that the real Mikey Dread was aware of this situation too.
It's with respect and gratefulness that we do say goodbye to the Real Mikey Dread, a talented and humble Lion who has done more for Reggae Music than most of us will ever know.
