FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, May 31 2010 - Greetings once again, and thanks you very much for your interest in this edition of Dubroom Weekly, wherein we've got a truckload on free and legal MP3's as well as another episode of the brand new Radio Dubroom podcast series. But that's not all...

During the traditional spring clean-up, I came across 40 wave files of musical works, of which most were only released in the MP3 format. We're talking about stuff dating as far back as the year 2000, wherein broadband Internet wasn't as common as today. Next to these files, I also found a previously unreleased discomix and a nice Jah Roots Dub from a couple of years ago. ZIPFILE (1.9 GIG)

A second episode of the brand new Radio Dubroom podcast series, wherein we have a special attention for a recent release called LEGACY, containing some very crucial productions and other musical works by Yabby You, the Iriginal Jesus Dread. This week's episode of Radio Dubroom plays the complete promo package in the memory of one of the Reggae legends which I personally feel much inspired by. Alongside some other interesting material, that is.

I sincerely hope that your collection of music is enlarged after your visit to this page, and I hope even more strongly that you at least consider buying some of the material which is so graciously given to the online community by Internet-loving labels.

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

YESUS DREADS: JAH MUSIC!

WWW, May 2010 -?Centered around the brand new re-release "Legacy" by the Iriginal Jesus Dread Yabby You, the second episode of Radio Dubroom presents you with another selection of old and new, online and offline music.
The show opens up with an extended Dub by US based Reggae Band Root Awakening, who was very hot in the days of MP3.com when online artists were getting more and more recognition as a force to deal with. There's more music from that time and website: a smash hit called Ten Plagues, with music produced by Dubcreator and conscious lyrics sung by Lyrical Benji. Also, Jonah Dan and Jah Rej come with dubs from the MP3.com days.

A healthy portion of contemporary online DUB is provided by the French Dawa Hi-Fi and I-Plant, who produced Tooney Roots' crucial tune, the UK based Blackstarliners are there as well as Sushidread with Axon Sound. Also included in the mix are? a couple uf tunes from the Dubroom's Star Selections Net Label: a nice one by Prince Fatty One Dub by JAH Roots and two demo's by the Dubroom Webmaster, tunes of which one riddim has never been released and the other just released as instrumental.

The main focus on this episode of Radio Dubroom is reserved for the LEGACY BY YABBY YOU, a recent online re-release of some of the best material Yabby You either produced or voiced, or both. Crucial toasting by no less than four Star DJ's, a pumping Dub and three nice vocals, of which two are voiced by the Iriginal Jesus Dread himself. The Dubroom deeply respects Yabby You for all the work he did musically and spiritually, so while he rests from his works in the Hands of the Almighty Father JAH, let us continue and promote upfullness. Please buy the album if you like the tunes!

ONDUBGROUND - LOLA

WWW, May 2010 - From the Net Label ORIGINAL DUB GATHERING that provides the online (DUB) Reggae community with several more than crucial releases, with massive music played by the Label's house band, vocalists and Dub engineers to bless up the Steppers riddim: Here is LOLA!
In four different mixes, we're being introduced to the Lola riddim by the French Roots Reggae Dub band Ondubground. It's a massive, solid and still highly danceable Steppers riddim which is voiced and mixed as skillful as the riddim is played (and recorded).
Two mixes were featured in Radio Dubroom's very first episode in this year: a thing which is very likely to happen several times in the future as well, since it's one of ODG's most crucial releases of the year thus far!

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

VARIOUS ARTISTS - DUB WARS

WWW, May 2010 - Fifteen acts, one Dub engineer: in this September 2009 release from ORIGINAL DUB GATHERING, Redi (Ruhdy) takes us on a journey into Dub Space inspired by the movies "Star Wars".
Dub Wars is definitely not full of war vibes, quite contrary to the suggestion given by the title. It's not full of energetic steppers at warp speed either, but rather filled with -for example- milder versions of the relatively new Dub derivate called DubStep.
Next to these DubStep tunes, we're also treated to a couple of relaxed DigiDubs where the French vibes definitely come through. French Dub is a sister style of UK Dub, but the differences are there, perfectly captured in this Dub Wars compilation.
Because all the tracks are processed by one Dub engineer, another very interesting aspect about Dub Wars is the fact that somehow all the fifteen acts get a sound which radiates throughout the entire album. In a way, this is not a compilation but an album by Dub engineer Redi, or Rhudy if you prefer...
Conclusion: Dub Wars has not so much to do with war, but rather with peace. Peaceful vibes from a French Dub engineer who definitely knows what he's doing: spreading good vibes where that is so much needed!

HERE IS... RADIO DUBROOM!

HERE IS... RADIO DUBROOM!
DUBROOM IN-SITE 30

HERE IS... RADIO DUBROOM!

WWW, May 2010 - After what was really a long hiatus of several years, Radio Dubroom is back online, allbeit somewhat different than before. One very nice difference is, that all episodes can be downloaded for free instead of just being streamed. Read about it in the 30th edition of Dubroom In-Site!

It really was a long time, about five years to be exact. In that time, a lot of things changed on the Internet and one of these things was that it was simply no longer affordable to keep Radio Dubroom online. After all, royalties were paid to some shady organization of which you just know that they will never distribute that money to the artists themselves. That shady organization got more and more greedy these last years with the result that it would have cost the Dubroom 100 dollar a month or more to keep streaming the music.

In the mean time, the podcast phenomenon took an enormous step forward and became just that: a phenomenon which isn't about to vanish. Throughout the years, the Dubroom reviewed hundreds of podcasts and now the time has arrived to put out our own.

So once again: Here Is... Radio Dubroom!

The choice was made to put the podcasts on dubroom.podbean.com with an on-site presentation at radio.dubroom.org. At the time this is written, there's one episode online but when you read this update as part of Dubroom Weekly, there's supposed to be another one too...

The music will consist out of the best from the Online (DUB) Reggae Artist community, material which the Dubroom has explicit permission to use, new releases sent to us for review and/or promotion, plus some rare and/or out-of-print music. Everything is mixed non-stop into one long mix, some effects and sounds are added.

The podcast will be available for free download in MP3 format. Episode one is encoded in 128kBit but the plans are to use higher quality in the episodes to come.

Hopefully, you'll like this brand new old feature of the Dubroom as much as I like to make them for you and for the promotion of Reggae Music.

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

RADIO DUBROOM 2010 - EPISODE 1

image

WWW, May 2010 - In the very first episode of the brand new Radio Dubroom Podcast, we can listen to a selection of fine (DUB) Reggae Music tracks, of which with the exception four titles all were available for free and legal download at mp3.dubroom.org.
The show opens up with 6 Jamaican (DUB) Reggae tracks from the 1970's-1980's. After the introduction Dub, a discomix by Mikey Dread, followed by two DJ tracks and a Dub. That was The Old.
We make a quick trip in both time and place, to land in the European continent where there is a large French movement involved in orthodox Roots Rock (DUB) Reggae. Centered around the beautiful Bring JAH Love by Kenny Knots and the French No More Babylon, we get a large taste of French DUB and Roots.
Via Moa Anbessa with a heartical, contemporary Roots rendering of the ancient Psalm 63, we cross the channel over to the UK where we find JAH Warrior with a Real DUB from Conscious Sounds Studio, JAH Rej from JAH Works UK and The Blackstarliners.
The last three titles are reserved for new releases: One title in two versions by the Abassi All-Stars and JAH Cure's soulful, spiritual response to the current tribulation in which many Jamaicans find themselves these days, as covered in the Dubroom Message Boards.

WWW, May 2010 - Howie Smart meets Dubmatix in a Roots Reggae meeting of which the results have yet to be released on disc.

Hard Road is more than crucial: a catchy Rockers riddim and the voice of original Skatalites member Howie Smart singing a song of praise and consciousness on top of it. A truly spiritual Roots Reggae track in the most Orthodox tradition.

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

DUBMATIX AND HOWIE SMART - LET THE POWER

DUBMATIX AND HOWIE SMART - LET THE POWER
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

Dubmatix

WWW, May 2010 - Original Skatalites member Howie Smart chants it up to the Most High while Canadian producer Dubmatix provides a well-fitting One Drop riddim to accompany the prayer.

In "Let The Power", Howie Smart sings two classic lyrics which give thanks and praises to the Creator Jah while acknowledging His Power which shall break every chain to set Jah people free again.

The well-fitting music, provided and produced by Toronto based Dubmatix is Ire, almost in a Gospel style because of some organ lines but stays within the wide realms of Reggae.

Dubmatix is a name to not only remember, but actively speak about to your fellow lovers of the better DUB and (other) Reggae Music.

WWW, May 2010 - This episode of Dubroom In-Site shall JAH Willing be featured in the fourth edition of Dubroom Weekly. In the mean time, plans are continued to work out and Dubroom Weekly itself gets a bit of a character, too.

The fourth edition of Dubroom Weekly will be featuring a lot of reviews of free and legal MP3 files. Additionally, new features have been established which let people download tracks directly from the Dubroom Weekly pages. Yes: MP3 files is still the main feature of Dubroom Weekly and it will probably stay like that for a while.

That is not to say that nothing else is going on...

Some test recording have already been done under the motto of Dubroom Radio. The plans are to upload Podcasts to the Internet very soon but certain things have to be settled, copyright issues being one of them. In the mean time, it definitely looks like Podcasts will soon be available.

The MP3 Portal is also under maintenance. New reviews and artists are added, slowly the MP3 Artist pages will contain direct download links to the reviewed MP3 files. One example is the NO MORE BABYLON MP3 PAGE.

A new feature at mp3.dubroom.org is the Dubroom Compilations. The first compilation will be presented in the fourth edition of Dubroom Weekly, but can also be found HERE. One reason why the Dubroom Podcasts have to be online pretty soon is that the compilations should also be available for download as a long mix file.

In the meantime, the weekly editions of Dubroom Online shall Jah Willing continue to provide the reader with some great free and legal MP3 files as well as information about (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness, as you're used to get from the Dubroom.

FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, May 10 2010 - Greetings, and thank you for this third edition of Dubroom Weekly. It's a time wherein I need to do a lot of things, both on the Dubroom and in the Outernet. Going from a daily edition to a weekly does pay off when it comes to being able to do the things I have to do and therefore I give thanks.

So, what do we have this week?

First of all, another ten unreviewed Mikey Dreads which you can download for free, and legally too. This page contains -for the time being- the final MP3 downloads of the great Reggae producer, vocalist, dj, etc.

Then, there's seven MP3 tracks which do come with a review. Among them is even a pre-release by Dancehall vocalist Muziah from his album "My Opinion". A healthy portion of UK DUB and Roots, a live performance by Sly and Robbie and a brand new release by none other than InI Kamoze.

For those interested in the more spiritual side of things, we also feature the Book of Enoch as a free download. You might just like to check it out.

See you next week!

WWW, May 2010 - With the digital release of his album "My Opinion" scheduled for June 1 in 2010 (yes, next month), Dubroom readers can already download the single legally for free.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - STEP 4 I PART 6

VARIOUS ARTISTS - STEP 4 I PART 6DUBROOM MP3 ALBUM REVIEW

Net Label Website

WWW, May 2010 - It took a while, but the results should be evident for every lover of Dub (and Dubbish)Music after listening to this 6th episode of the crucial compilation chronicles by the French Net Label Original DUB Gathering.

Can you spell m.a.s.s.i.v.e.?

Massive it surely is: in 26 tracks, the listener is provided with a truly impressive picture of what's going on inna Dubful Europe. At least, a part of the continent. Croatia, Italy, the UK, Germany and France are represented in what can only be described as Massive!

As soon as you start playing the album, you know that someone has done some work to gather the tracks into one compilation. We hear a remarkable amount of tracks which have been played rather than programmed, as well as hybrids between the two ways of producing. There's even a live performance by the Massive DUB Corporation. All in all an unexpectly pleasant sound, which makes you want to listen to the rest of the album.

As said in the introduction, though, not every track on the album can be filed within one or another category of Dub, or even Reggae. Natty Bass and Biga Ranx, for example. Their track "Soul Melody" is about 98% Hip-Hop and 2% DUB. Remarkable, since the tune was produced by the Original Dub Gathering crew themselves. Even though it's not really annoying, the question does come to mind as to why these elements are presents in an otherwise crucial compilation.

Anyway...

When it comes to the DUB (and other Reggae), we can only be impressed by the more than fine quality of the tunes. Well produced, perfectly mastered and well versatile. Everything is represented when it comes to vibes, instruments, artists and producers.

Nuff Raspect to the Original DUB Gathering once more! The album is well recommended to everyone and should be considered a must-have for every self-respecting collector of Relevant DUB!

DANI ITES - ROOTS MELODY

DANI ITES - ROOTS MELODY
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

DANI ITES - ROOTS MELODY

WWW, May 2010 - After the short opening featuring just the melodica, the Drum and Bass jump right in there, setting the tone for the rest of the 5-track EP by Spanish multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer Dani Ites.

Ites and Ites!

Dani Ites is blessed with many talents. His debut album showcases several, two of them being his productional skills and ability to play melodica throughout the five tracks without becoming boring. The brethren is a member of Barcelona's Humble Lion Sound System, where he is said to often steal the show with improvisations on melodica and vocal works. Unfortunately, his vocal works remain within the Humble Lion sessions until this date (may 2010), as there's no singing throughout the EP.

The track titles show that Dani Ites knows how being in the Ire Ites is not just another description for a state of mind after smoking a spliff: Word of Jah, for example. Or even more clear: Jahoviah. Throughout the five tracks, this inspiration is heartically felt.

No, there's not much dubbing going on. The first three tunes are instrumentals even though this should not turn you off. The drum and bass lines are more than catchy, the fourth track ("Warrior") is an upfull steppers with a touch of Dub, where Roots Melody ends with "Westerly", a relaxed and Ire riddim which leaves the listener wanting more.

Soon come?

THE BLACKSTARLINERS - ROARING LION

THE BLACKSTARLINERS - ROARING LIONDUBROOM MP3 ALBUM REVIEWNet Label Website
WWW, May 2010 - The French Net Label "Original Dub Gathering" has made it's name in the online (DUB) Reggae Community for quite a while now. Their first release of this year will only add weight to that name: Introducing the Blackstarliners, original and massive UK DUB for which I and I give thanks.
They've played with Zion Train, Bush Doctors and Improvisators Dub to name just three well-known acts within UK DUB and Roots with which the Blackstarliners have been performing in Europe. They play in the same style, with the same intensiveness, intentionally heavyweight UK DUB where electronica and programmed material both take their -essential- place.
Roaring Lion is a rather short EP: 4 tracks, three titles, one remix. Hopefully this is just an appetizer because the feeling one will have after the 23 minutes or so is a feeling of wanting more. The music is just too nice, the mixes are just too good, the sistren singer sings just too well...

This is UK DUB the way UK DUB should be. Love it, or hate it. InI at the Dubroom love it!
