MYSTERY BABYLON (178)

Dubroom Online - November 18, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (178)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 18 2008 - It didn't take me long to discover what I had put myself in, after I joined that group of "Christians involved in Reggae Music".

I thought we would be Chanting Down Babylon and tell our Christian brothers and Sisters the truth about Babylon. But in reality, it turned to be nothing more than, well, a cult.

The goal was not to tell the Christians about Babylon, but to basically create a "Gospel Reggae Industry" and use that Industry to infiltrate Reggae Culture and even Rastafarian Culture.

I would meet people who would carry dreadlocks. They would tell me, that the only reason they do it is to "gain trust" from a Rasta, in order to make that Rasta just another Babylonian.

GEMINI SOUND DUB PLATES: THE EIGHTIES
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - A great impersonation just another Gospel Preacher man opens up a very, very special Podcast. Check out a couple of DUB Plates as they were used by the Gemini Sound System, in the 1980's.

The Heptones, Lt. Stitchie, Terror Fabulous, and Dennis Brown: all of them are represented on this Reggae Rarity. These Dub Plates have been used by the Gemini Sound System back in the 1980's.

The vocalists would voice over the riddims and the Sound System would play these special versions on the Dances and at Clashes with other Sound Systems.

This is a historical document, and if only for that reason, a must have in your collection.

DUBROOM VIDEO REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - After the bizarre introduction, Bob Marley and the Wailers perform their track for American television. The year is 1975, and a lot was about to happen.

The quality of the video is abominable, but the historic value of this Bob Marley performance for American television is just too big.

America was not ready for Reggae, as many Reggae historians would say, about that time around the early 1970's. In a documentary called "Catch a Fire", we see just how much effort was put into getting Bob Marley and Reggae Music accepted by the mainstream in the land of R&B.

The performance on this video can be seen in that historical context. It was a time wherein not just Bob Marley and the Wailers, but many more tried to get Reggae Music into the main stream. A long, long struggle that would take quite a few years still...

MYSTERY BABYLON (177)

Dubroom Online - November 17, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (177)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 17 2008 - Around 8 or so years ago, I was approached by a man who is now known as the "founder of Gospel Reggae".

He wanted me to join a network he was setting up where Reggae artists, producers, dj's, and fans who also knew themselves to be "Christian" could hook up with each other.

Not knowing what I know now, I joined the group as I thought we could come together and tell our Christian brothers and sisters the truth about Babylon.

After all, in my naivety, I really thought that people who were Christian and loving Reggae Music could not be anything else but conscious people who would chant down Babylon.

This naivety led me straight into Babylon.

I did not love the truth, but I went for a good feeling.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - Starting off with Culture's "Selection Train", and ending with Culture's "This Train". You guessed it, there's a theme in this excellent set of Roots Rockers and you want to get on board.

The train on the photo provided with this Podcast filled with old-skool Roots Reggae just gives a perfect impression of the 55 minutes ahead. Although the music isn't as old as the locomotive, this one is all about trains.

Reggae trains, to be exact.

Reggae Selection Train, Reggae Freedom Train, Reggae Correction Train, all kind of Reggae Train.

No Mikal Rose "Tu-Tu-Twain", however. The set contains Old Skool Reggae, as old as Old Skool can get. With the exception of the opening track, that is.

So let's follow the advice of hour hostess and put a smile on our face: time for almost one hour of Ire sounds.

Reggae Sounds!

DUBROOM VIDEO REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - Who is Mr. Heartless, and just why does he have no heart? Let Anthony B enlighten us with some Truth Vibration, Rastaman style.

How's life in Jamaica? Many seem to think that it's just about sunshine and drinking rum on the beach or something like that. Anthony B shows what life is like, especially in the ghetto's where people get killed like tourists get drinks in hotels.

The music isn't Reggae, isn't Dancehall, and yet it is. A mystical thing, which obviously has to do with the message contained in this tune.

MYSTERY BABYLON (176)

Dubroom Online - November 16, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (176)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, November 16 2008 - Just how did I discover myself in Babylon, when I found myself in the midst of "Christian Reggae Artists"?

There wasn't just one incident which led me to realize this, but more a train of events that showed a pattern. A pattern, which just spelled the word b.a.b.y.l.o.n.

You see, when someone claims to be a Christian, this very someone claims to "Love the Truth", right?

Wrong.

It turned out, that I had found myself in the midst of "Christians" whose definition of "truth" came straight out of Satan's "Book of the Law".

Their "truth" was a quest for a good feeling, at the cost of everything that caused "bad feelings".
