HAPPY 2009!

Dubroom Online - January 15 2009

"HAPPY 2009!" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 15 2009 - Even though we're already two weeks into the new calendar year of 2009: I would like to wish you a very blessed new year!

We'll start off 2009 in the Dubroom with a brand new DUB album produced in the Dubroom Studio by yours truly: all new and original material created in the last weeks.

As I have been blessed significantly with a rather impressive upgrade of my digital hardware, I was able to also significantly expand technical possibilities when it comes to DUB production.

I hope you can hear it, as we'll release one tune a day for the coming ten days. I also hope you don't mind if I chat a bit about making DUB in these coming days...

After all, it's "just" a column...

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

SEE YOU JANUARY 15

Dubroom Online - December 31, 2008 - January 15 2009

"SEE YOU JANUARY 15" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 31 2008 - As we conclude 2008 with this last edition of Dubroom Online of the year, we do so with the latest track from the Dubroom Studio entitled "Babylon Observer 2008".

Two mixes, the first slightly slower than the second. The second looks forward to 2009, wherein the word "quickening" will become reality in the dictionary of many people.

Also, a mix to announce that the Dubroom will not be updated until JAH Willing, January the 15th. Yours truly needs a break and also to work on things. However, when you can't wait until January 15th, just check out the blogs and the messageboards...

We hope you'll have a great and blessed 2009, whoever you are and wherever you may be!

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

ITEMS FOR THIS EDITION:

MESSIAN DREAD - BABYLON OBSERVER 2008
DUBROOM STAR SELECTIONS RELEASE

The last Dubroom release of the year 2008 is livicated to the Babylon Observer, one of the Dubroom's Research Projects documenting the coming fall of Babylon Shitstem.
The music is militant, based on a classic Jamaican Reggae riddim, however this is completely in Messian Dread style.

Two mixes, the first one having a slightly slower speed (135 BpM) than the second (139 BpM) one. Could have something to do with the individual titles of the two different mixes, who knows?

Luciano, Queen Ifrica, Stephen Marley. Just three out of many artists who performed at Reggae Summerjam. This German festival is one of the biggest, of not the biggest Reggae festivals in Europe. People having a good time, artists are interviewed (German subtitles), and of course, lots of music.

An hour and 14 minutes of pure niceness, which will surely give you a good impression of the European Reggae scene.

MESSIAN DREAD - DUB IS NOT A JOKE
DUBROOM STAR SELECTIONS RELEASE

Not a laughing matter, even though some may do. Seven minutes, two DUB mixes of what can only be a serious riddim.

So serious, that the first mix has several sound clips of George W. Bush making fun of the fact that no WMD's were found in Iraq, where he talks down on what he calls "conspiracy theories" in another clip.

Serious, as the DUB Effects in the second mix show to the ear. Especially with some subwoofer able to produce really low sound, this DUB will come to it's full power.

THE HARDER THEY COME

THE HARDER THEY COME
DUBROOM VIDEO REVIEW

WWW, December 2008 - Starring Jimmy Cliff as Rhygin, The Harder They Come tells the story of Jamaica's Robin Hood (or Al Capone) as he comes to Kingston and grows out to be the talk of the town.

This movie was shot in the 1970's, not quite the time where Rhygin troubled the police on Jamaica. But that doesn't matter, especially not since this movie does more than "just" telling Rhygin's story.

The Harder They Come gives a pretty good insight in Jamaica during the mid 1970's, even though the economical situation hasn't changed much throughout the decades.

Young Jimmy Cliff enters Kingston as his mother died, and get confronted with the high cost of living and huge unemployment. Music, often seen as the other way out of the ghetto, turns out to be inaccessible for talented people due to corruption.

After a long, long attempt to basically get a life, Jimmy Cliff becomes one of Jamaica's legends. Rhygin, seen by one as Robin Hood and by the other as Al Capone, was a pain in the neck for Jamaica's police until they shot him to death.

This great movie tells Rhygin's story, while giving a picture of Jamaica during the 1970's. Essential!
