Admitted: it's just the flanger that was used and it wasn't for this review even though it caused this review to be there in the first place. In other words: this sounded too good to not share and so it was done. This is a flanger that leaves some of it's commercially available competitors way behind. It works fine with drums and even with voice, when you're into weird Dub mixing that is.

Lovers' Rock is that other side of UK Reggae which may have nothing to do with heavyweight Roots and Dubwise but is nevertheless very much a part of the many styles the big island in front of the European continent has provided the world with. Lovers' Rock: Smooth and silky, yet with a tight riddim or skank section (the guitars etc) and a solid drum and bass line. In other words: Reggae for lovers. Nothing to do with Dancehall and it's outbursts, just niceness and a very pleasant rhythm.
Well, it's a description of Lovers' Rock and it is a description of Aysha Loren's new single "Keep it Like it Is". This sistren has a beautiful voice that suits the silky style of Lover's Rock perfectly. Keep it like it is, indeed, keeping Lovers' Rock exactly like it is. Because it is the way it should be.
The single in fact is taken from an upcoming EP called "Back to You" and when it's representative of this EP, you can say that UK Lovers' Rock has been given an impulse that will help making the genre known to a wider audience, which it should. And for which we pay respect to this sistren.

WWW, June 2014 - Just like the previous SoundWare review, this Dubroom review of the excellent Sound System Vocals by DubDrops (not coincidently sounding like DrumDrops) also comes with some practical sound illustrations in the form of released Dubroom productions. So you wondered where the recent releases featuring Horseman and Dennis Alcapone came from, because you're a producer/selector/whatever yourself? Now you know, without apology.
Consider all Dubroom productions carrying the works of Horseman and/or Dennis Alcapone to be unofficial promo's for the Sound System Vocals series by DubDrops. Yes, they are completely free and legal musical works representing the current state of the Dubroom Studio and musical phase of it's engineer and can hopefully enjoyed by those that will never read bother to read a review about soundware because they just love (DUB) Reggae Music: the audience, the ones for who ultimately all of we do it. But the music is also partly the result of purchasing the series, for which we make no apology.
Quite the contrary.
So, when you're a producer, selector, or otherwise interested in reading about the DubDrops series, you might want to check out the Dubroom's three-part in-depth review and decide for yourself if this is something for you as well.

RADIO DUBROOM 2014 CHAPTER 7
The set starts of with a Vibronics Dub, from the album Dub Italizer, a classic until this very day. Second is Lady Shelly, welcome to Canada, not in the least because of some recent publications concerning the trouble Queen Ifrica got from blind warriors fighting Rasta without knowing who they fight against.
What follows is a selection of UK and EURO Dub and Roots, from Sweden to the UK to the Netherlands. Vibronics, Zion Train, Slimmah Sound, Dubcreator and Goldheart Music are all present. And the Mad Professor, too, with a track from the excellent "Inspirational Sounds of Mad Professor" album released through Zion Train's Universal Egg label.

Years ago, Messian Dread and the well-known UK DUB act Alpha and Omega did an a-capella exchange resulting in an excellent tune by the UK Dub Twins and a -now very much dated- track by Messian Dread. To celebrate the current sonical developments in the Dubroom Studio (yes, a new sound), a complete new track was build on this a-capella from the classic "Show Me A Purpose", (non-exclusive but licensed) vocals by two mighty MC's strategically added and subsequently made into the Dubs you can download for free in both CD Quality Wave Audio or High Quality MP3 files before listening.
The music? Original heavyweight steppers in the Roots/Rockers tradition. Two tracks, two different vibes, each one or both fully suitable to be part of your Roots Reggae Sound System selection or DJ Set/Podcast. Or simply as a part of your play-list. Whatever the case, when you like some Roots Reggae Dubwise you will like Dub Hurts/Hurts Dub, cause when the music hits you feel no pain.

WWW, June 2014 - Those who have been listening to the first Dubroom productions in the new 2014 sound, have been recognizing very familiar elements. At least, to those who know their (DUB) Reggae music. Yes, there were two releases carrying horns that unmistakably came from Mad Professor's ARIWA SOUND Studio's. So, what was the case? Yes, they were the result of a purchase of Mad Professor's REEL 2 REEL REGGAE, a loops and sample pack that gives you enough material to fill several albums.
Read a Dubroom review of the sample pack, download/listen to an MP3 track with just some loops and standard echo/reverb plus a little bit of moving sliders on the REX players which already gives a pretty decent taste of the quality and potential of REEL TO REEL Reggae.

Sometimes, it is good to take a little bit of rest. The Dubroom started back in 1997 and developed but during the first part of 2014 and some years before that, yours truly had absolutely no energy to continue in the same way. The sound that was developed around 2006, was worn out to say the least. Five albums and well over thirty EP's/Singles, altogether about 130 different mixes, the last one released in this year, 2014. In another update you can already read a little bit about it, but this edition of Dubroom In-Site gives a bigger picture.
Most self-respecting artists and producers will have a sense of unsatisfaction concerning material they have (seen) released in the past. It's called healthy criticism or continual insight, whatever. Usually, such a sense leads to some kind of development but it can take time, sometimes years before anything is actually achieved.
Even though it can take years, an improvement can be done in a short time. Just compare "Dub the Wicked" (MP3) with "Imperial Dubwise" (MP3), the first one released in April and the second in May of this year 2014. The difference is hopefully noticeable, and is not just the result of some financial investments in licenses and hardware. Not just the result of a sense of responsibility and dignity when it comes to using the obtained material. It has to do with inspiration as well, something that is very hard to define. Call it the X-Factor. Personally, I Messian Dread prefer to say the JAH Factor but that will be no surprise for anyone even remotely familiar with I (works).
Now, these past few months it's not just the Dubroom Website where a lot of things are going on. The very same, well, to be quite frankly even more can be said about the Dubroom Studio. Thus far, only a couple of tracks have been released but much more is produced, just not released. A sneak preview is given in......
