WWW, August 5 2014 - This Episode 34 of Dubroom In-Site announces the first full-length Messian Dread album since almost a decade and sums up the latest improvements to the availability of Dubroom music. Thanks for reading, feedback more than welcome!

Announcing the first full-length Messian Dread album since almost a decade

In a recent personal musical update, a mention was made concerning efforts to release a physical CD with full Artwork. At the time of that update, the CD was going through an approval process. It's current status is that tomorrow or the day after a proof-copy will be sent to the Dubroom for review. When everything is found to be in order, the CD will be available from AMAZON.com for a reasonable price. The disc will have four bonus tracks and will last a full 70 minutes. When everything goes the way it preferably will, the CD should be available sometime next month.

The disc will be the CD version of an album that will be released for free download from August 10 to 21, so that is in a few days time. Every day, another track will be made available for free download. The free download album contains twelve tracks, the CD has a bonus tracks. The CD will come in true full quality CD audio taken directly from the master files and will include full Artwork. It is, however, a service for those people that like to have a physical CD of this first full-length Messian Dread album since almost a decade.

The album has the rather theatrical but nevertheless quite truthful title "Messian Dread Presents A Heavyweight Dubwise Selection Without Objection". All the tracks on the album are original Dubroom riddims, and they feature a whole host of excellent to even legendary vocalists like U Roy, Prince Jazzbo, Papa Kojak, Seamus, Ras Khaleel and others.

Here is the Front Cover (click to enlarge):

All tracks have been created between May and June of this year, after obtaining several vocal licenses and a lot of work in the Dubroom studio. They are all original Dubroom riddims and productions. Everything is created and mixed in the Dubroom studio although some loops with Horns and Percussion were used, and of course the vocals. These vocalists obviously deserve respect, in this case respect in the form of the best the Dubroom can produce at the moment. Those interested in these more technical aspects should read this article and visit studio.dubroom.org or dubroom.yuku.com on a regular basis as more information is added.

Dubroom music available at more websites

With the increase in number of releases comes the increase of websites from where you can download Dubroom music. Where the music was previously available at SOUNDCLICK.com, ICOMPOSITIONS.com, LAST.fm, VERSIONIST.net and REVERBNATION.com this has been expanded to  AMAZON.com and MYSPACE.com. In a way, you can add You Tube to this list as well, given the fact that already two full length tracks have been release in the form of official videos.

Just a few more things

The Dubroom was and is founded in 1997 to promote (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness. Everything reviewed, published and even released should be seen as an act of promotion of (DUB) Reggae and/or Consciousness as you can find it more or less described throughout the entire Dubroom network of website, blogs and message boards. This doesn't mean that our releases are to be seen as promotional material in the sense of "free to copy and paste for my own promotion".

MP3/Wav releases before 2014 are released under Creative Commons Copyright, but not the material released since around April/May of this year 2014.

And not the midifiles, either. We are trying to reach out to the people of www.tempa.co.uk who release a tune "Blue Eyez" by someone called "Skream". This individual has used a midifile from midi.dubroom.org, pressed "play" on his midiplayer and added some sounds, in order to release it commercially under his own name. Throughout the years, the track has been viewed well over 150,000 times on YouTube which should at least trigger some response to the Dubroom for it is this website and it's attached studio where the musical track was originally created and released.

Anyway,

One Love,
Messian Dread

Studio Dubroom Website Review: Loop Masters

LOOP MASTERS
DUBROOM WEBSITE REVIEW

Read Review/Visit Site

WWW, August 2014 - When you're involved or interested in music production, it's almost impossible to not notice how many websites carry advertisements of LOOPMASTERS.com. When you've recently visited Studio Dubroom or enjoyed the music we've released since April this year, it's even totally impossible to not know about this website. Messian Dread reviews the "Sample Boutique" from his perspective as an online (DUB) Reggae producer.

It was somewhere in the beginning of 2014, that I was browsing the Web in search for some material to use in my music. I had been kind of silent for quite some years, and one of the reasons for that was that I was kind of finished with the sounds that I had produced for some years. Finished with my virtual brass section, finished with my own vocals, and very much impressed by more recent online works from Net Labels mainly in the digital spectrum.

I have this thing with in-your-face digital Dub and other Roots Reggae. I love it, I can make hours and hours of DJ mixes carrying the sounds. I can't, however, produce it myself. It's simply not there, in my soul. At least, not at this moment. After several failed attempts which I don't even want to discuss, I felt myself kind of stuck between the stuff I produced earlier and, well, something I wasn't really sure of.

In this state of mind, I was kind of looking on the Internet for some stuff to work on, or with. Typing all kinds of key-words into the search engine, getting all kinds of websites with shady contents that might be nice for some private productions but for the rest has, let's say, legally questionable material. Sure, it would be nice to download an Acapella by let's say Luciano and be able to create a musical work with it that you can release, right? Well, forget such niceness when you use shady websites like the ones I just described.

Someone once said, in a different context: "Do as they say, not as they do". I took that principal at hand, and went on to look for a legal variety. Is it possible, to get some good quality legal vocal material, preferably of the authentic kind? This is where I discovered just why almost every website with advertisements has this banner linking to LOOPMASTERS.com.

Usually and like "everyone", I ignore banners and ads when I visit a website. The times that I've actually clicked on an ad because I was interested in the site can be counted using the fingers of one hand, and I'm online since the early 1990's. Being the "rebel" that I am, the more I see an ad the less I'm likely to click on it. The reason why I did visit the Loop Masters' website therefore had nothing to do with the publicity. The reason was simply I was looking for legal material, especially vocals, and my search engine gave me the link. The only link.

Now, a few months later, I can only conclude that Loop Masters is the one-stop for most of the most authentic and legal online source material for the production of (DUB) Reggae Music. This is not my suggestion for a slogan to use in yet another banner, it is my personal conclusion at this moment. A conclusion which I would like to share, without apology but with reasoning.

The first thing that I noticed, was a familiar name: Dubmatix. This Canadian producer is without the shadow of a doubt living up to his last name "King" when it comes to Dub and the North American continent. He knows his music, he knows his vocalists and he knows his studio. I looked further and discovered they had a sample pack with material from none other than Mad Professor. My fingers started to itch as I was clicking my mouse. However, I wasn't jumping to the "Sample Boutique" as they very pleasantly describe themselves to get Drum loops and such things.

This is when I discovered what would become source material for literally all my productions this year, both released and (yet) unreleased or even unfinished. Source material for 10's and 10's of tracks, perhaps even well over a 100. Quality source material, for prices that make you laugh. Authentic quality source material, of which the first serious online review is yet to be written. This review -and the product reviews the Dubroom already published- is only the beginning of a serious promotion campaign to right that blatant wrong.

Now, do I seriously think that Loop Masters is waiting for a Dubroom review to get customers? Absolutely not. In fact, I am convinced that they have a good running business and probably didn't even notice how the Dubroom reviewed one of it's products only days after it's release (Mad Professor's Reel to Reel Reggae Volume Two). The overwhelming major part of Loop Master's catalogue is aimed at the producer of Electronic Dance Music or EDM, so they're obviously not depending on "our kind of people" (Dub/Reggae producers).

A kind of independence that -in the case of LOOPMASTERS.com- provides quality of the highest -read: non-commercial- kind.

Let me put it in other words, more blatant. The music we love, (DUB) Reggae, is commercially not attractive. You will not score a world hit with a Dub tune. At least, not yet. There is no strict commercial interest that will drive a provider of Samples and other Soundware to offer (DUB) Reggae related material. There must be some other reason for Loop Masters to offer the things they do, and I can come up with nothing else but a pure love for Reggae.

So, what I'm reviewing here is actually not really the website LOOPMASTERS.com but rather the things you, as a producer of (DUB) Reggae music can find there. Yes, there is much more than what was already reviewed here in the Dubroom and even though eventually all interesting products will get their own review, you might not want to wait any longer after reading what you're about to read.

Get ready.

Readers and visitors will have read about "Roots Step", a very contemporary form of Roots Reggae that appeals to lovers of DubStep and other forms of contemporary digital stuff. Roots Step is a sound by Berlin based producer DON GOLIATH, who has been interviewed because of his remarkable musical works. His countless tracks feature legendary vocalists like U Roy, Trinity, Dillinger, Kojak, Lone Ranger, and Prince Jazzbo. Others feature more younger but crucial singers like Ras Khaleel, Clifton Yeates, Seamus, Kamouflage, Kontent, Masta Jay, Assante and Tallis. Or MC's like Piracy, Lion Tafari, and Jah Rooti.

Wait.

It's rather difficult not to notice that some of these names feature in more recent Dubroom productions and in case you've wondered just how it is possible for the Dubroom to produce a Dillinger track, now you know.

No, Don Goliath and I have not both been shopping at LOOPMASTERS.com. In fact, this is where I got introduced to this name, as Don Goliath is the one who provided the UK based sample boutique with 10's of acapellas he used for his own productions. Original acapellas, proven by the fact that many of the vocalists talk about the Don.

Under the name "Don Goliath - Reggae And Dub Acapellas Vol. 1-6", LOOPMASTERS.com offers full length lyrical acapellas including a license (quite important). Each volume has a number of tracks. You can buy a volume and pay less per track, or you can -like I did- pay a little more but only get the ones you want. A little nit-picking, because when you're looking at the prices you start to wonder why there is so little music found online that was created with one or more of the acapellas.

Usually, when there's not a sale you will pay around 8 Euros per track. Immediately after you make a purchase, you get "virtual cash" in your account, which is about 10-15% of the money you just spent. You can use this "virtual cash" with a next purchase. When there's a sale, you can get an acapella for as low as five euros this way. Again, this includes a legal license to use the vocal works in your own productions.

When I discovered LOOPMASTERS.com I could not believe that I had never heard any track featuring the vocal works before, in particular with prices like these. I see some non-commercial artists using acapellas from shady sites or jingles from albums that "everyone" knows, with the result that their own productions are shady and can never be seriously considered. This ridiculously cheaply priced series from Don Goliath -and other vocal releases at LOOPMASTERS.com- should put an end to that, in my opinion.

Sure, there are many who -for one reason or another- are unable to perform online payments. Still, this can not be an excuse not to pay attention to the website or the sample packs they offer. It's what I did when I first visited the website: I downloaded the free demo files from all the Reggae vocal packs at the website and some other stuff as well, like Mad Professor's Reel to Reel Reggae. In itself, this was almost the weight of a complete sample pack but that wasn't the only fun these free downloads gave me. They included a license too!

Check this quote, straight from the Loop Masters website:

The demo loops are covered by our General Licence Terms meaning you can use them in your commercial productions with no further royalty payments. If you do use them commercially we would very much appreciate you purchasing the full pack in order to help support our Artists producing the packs, more releases and free samples.

Source: http://support.loopmasters.com/knowledgebase/articles/242293-free-samplepacks-what-can-i-do-with-them

This simply means, that every online artist can -should- register at LOOPMASTERS.com, receive a free welcome pack and start downloading the demo files. It's free and gives your releases a legal foundation, which is not just relevant for obvious reasons: it is a sign of (self-) respect as well.

It did not take me too long before I wanted more than the free packs I downloaded. These free packs, however, had already brought me on a next level. Remember, I was kind of looking for material because I hadn't been producing anything for years because I was finished with my sound. I had found the source material I was looking for. This was indeed a financial investment, but even without any purchase I have done at LOOPMASTERS.com I had material for many, many tracks. Licensed material, that is.

For me, the Loop Masters boutique has provided me with just the right material to improve my sound to a next level. Something which in my idea can easily be recognized just by playing stuff I currently release and comparing it with my older stuff, like on my album "Showcase". No, I am not talking about easy-to-build tracks. In reviews I hope to publish later on the Don Goliath series, this will become very clear. I am talking about inspiring material that challenges me to go beyond what I used to do. Material that is educational, too.

I wasn't asked or paid to do this review. I wrote it because it is my work to promote (DUB) Reggae Music. Even my own productions and releases can and should be seen in that context. I think that when properly used, the material that LOOPMASTERS.com has for the average online (DUB) Reggae artist/producer can serve as a resource to improve the quality of many, many works.

When you're serious about your work, a visit to LOOPMASTERS.com is almost as obligated as having a computer in the first place.

Without apology.

One Love,
Messian Dread

Trinity - Light Of This Dubwise ~ Dillinger - Dwell In Love And Dubwise (Extended Versions)

TRINITY - LOVE OF THIS DUBWISE/DILLINGER - DWELL IN LOVE AND DUBWISE (EXTENDED VERSIONS)
DUBROOM NET LABEL RELEASE

More Info and Download

WWW, August 2014 - Two Heavyweight Dubwise tracks in their extended version, both carrying the voices of two Heavyweight Reggae MC's each with their own impressive career dating back to the 1970's when Dillinger made a world hit with "cokane in my brain" while Trinity voiced the now absolutely classic Jesus Dread for Yabby You. Listen how they sound on the original Dubroom riddims in this fully legal and licensed free virtual 12", and then get ready for the full length DUB album that follows after this release.

Granted: most 12" vinyl releases will carry Discomixes that sometimes last up until 9 minutes, where the two tracks on this release together last about eleven minutes. However, the longer a track the less room there is for a good bass and that's the reason why this release is brought to you as a virtual twelve inch maxi single: this is Sound System Style Dubwise and that means nuff bass!

TRINITY - LIGHT OF THIS DUBWISE (EXTENDED)

The track opens with the typical Sound System DUB Siren, while Trinity starts introducing the track and the Name of the Light of this world, when the basds drops in, the drums follows and there is a militant style stepper with nuff space for MC's to add their own lyrics without forgetting the fact that this is a Messian Dread Dub and that means nuff Dub mixing as well.

DILLINGER - DWELL IN LOVE AND DUBWISE (EXTENDED)

With excellent backing vocals from none other than Don Goliath, Dillinger's part of this two-track release has a less militant yet equally strong Roots vibration. On the other hand, the Dub mixing is more intense in this one. The horns, recorded in Mad Professor's Ariwa studio, are completely transformed at times. Like the vocals, that is. More than enough message in this one, too!

Both tracks also appear on the full-length album MESSIAN DREAD PRESENTS A HEAVYWEIGHT DUBWISE SELECTION WITHOUT OBJECTION, available for free download and physical CD with full Artworks.

1. Trinity - Light Of This Dubwise Extended (5:26)
2. Dillinger - Dwell In Love And Dubwise Extended (5:46)

Please do not re-publish the actual music, because unlike Dubroom releases before 2014, this release is © Messian Dread/Dubroom. Available for free: 128 Kbps/320 Kbps MP3 Files, CD Quality Wave Audio.

Radio Dubroom Extra Chapter 3: The Genius Mad Professor

THE GENIUS MAD PROFESSOR
RADIO DUBROOM EXTRA CHAPTER 3

Chapter Page

WWW, August 2014 - To illustrate the words of the Dubroom's review on Mad Professor and his countless works from his ARIWA studio's with some heavyweight power Dub sounds, here is Chapter three of Radio Dubroom Extra. This chapter contains two hours and twenty minutes of stricktly Ariwa material from the early 1980's to more recent times.

The Mad Professor has done so many things with so many singers and players of instruments that it is impossible to claim to give a "complete overlook" or whatever. This mix, too, does not give credit enough to the works of Neil Fraser aka the Mad Professor. However, it's selected with care, and mixed in a no-nonsense style without too much extra effects and jingles and thing.

Put on your headphones or even better: turn on your speakers and subwoofers and make a joyfull noise in your neighborhood. Or google the album titles that come with each title.

The Mad Professor (Dubroom Artist Review And Much More)

THE MAD PROFESSOR
artists.dubroom.org/madprofessor

Visit Artist SubSite On Dubroom

WWW, July 2014 - He is definitely one of the founding fathers of (UK) DUB and there is so much more that can be attributed to the works of Neil Fraser better known as The Mad Professor. From his London-based ARIWA Studio's to the world (wide web), it's impossible to count the works that this genius has released throughout the decades. The Dubroom's rather large number of reviews of Mad Professor's albums covers only a small portion of his work. A -rather personal- review by the Dubroom editor.

When he was a young child, he had more than an average interest in electronic devices. Perhaps it came through an interest he had, as he reportedly asked his mother who that little man in the radio actually was. Whatever it was, a strong determination and even more efforts led him to start his own recording studio in his home in London, where he recorded the Punk band Ruts DC and also started recording Reggae music.

dub me crazy

Gradually, he became known and this got a real boost with the introduction of his now standard listening material for anyone even remotely into DUB and far beyond that: the DUB ME CRAZY series. Almost single-handedly, he took what was then (early 1980's) a fading trend in Jamaica and popularized it in the UK, Europe and the rest of the planet eventually. The creativity and, yes, without apology, genius mind of the Mad Professor was captured in these early releases and has never disappointed throughout the decades that followed.

It was during these days, that yours truly as a teenager had discovered the sound of DUB and after buying several chapters of the DUB ME CRAZY series phoned the number that was printed on the record sleeves. The Mad Professor took like half an hour, just to talk with this Dutch teenager that was "dubbed crazy". A memory that is precious and a half hour that turned out decisive.

dub, lovers' rock and roots daughters

Good vibes and always a place for known and unknown musicians and vocalists. Back in the days of MP3.com, several artists had a Dub of their music mixed by the Mad Professor. In the same time, he recorded Reggae Greats like Yabby You and Michael Prophet and created more essential Dub listening like New Decade of DUB with JAH Shaka.

Legendary for his DUB, another side of Mad Professor is his many Lovers' Rock releases. Lover's Rock is a very sweet, silky form of Reggae to which the UK seems to have some kind of signature and ARIWA plays -just like with that other trademark UK DUB- a central role. Usually, slackness is far away with Lovers' Rock and it's absolutely gone with the ROOTS DAUGHTERS that Mad Professor recorded and released. His recordings with singers like AISHA have reached classic status.

massive attack and the orb

ARIWA has not just recorded Reggae Music of the highest kind. Mad Professor has made a rather classic remake of Massive Attack's album No Protection, the ORB used his recordings with AISHA, and that's just two examples from the 1990's.

thief can't hold him

He got an enormous blow when it turned out that in spite of the good and necessary vibrations produced in Ariwa studio, some wicked person(s) decided to become a thief in the night and robbed everything. A wicked, wicked thing indeed which too not just a lot of time from Mad Professor and his Ariwa crew. Fortunately he regained his desire to share his music with the rest of mankind and we are now obviously at the point where ARIWA is the name for one of the essential sounds of Roots Reggae that is present in this time.

reel to reel reggae

With the rise of the computer and other digital technology came the rise of computer-based music. After the initial time it took to overcome prejudice, computer-based music is now considered to be equal to that which is not directly programmed into a Pentium or what have you. Mad Professor released the second volume of "Reel To Reel Reggae", an excellent sample series for producers which is purchased, reviewed and used by the Dubroom.

reel to real dubwise

Only a short period after Reel To Reel Reggae Volume Two was released and reviewed by the Dubroom, this website released a three-track EP with extended Dub created directly with Mad Professor's Sample Pack. A tribute called "Reel To Real Dubwise", which can be downloaded for free from the Dubroom and a variety of Online Music Distributors like LAST.fm, REVERBNATION.com, and VERSIONIST.net.

world wide web

It is not so difficult to find information and music by the Mad Professor on the Internet. Take YouTube, where it is rather easy to find several video's where he performs live or gives interviews. Even tutorials, when you look a bit deeper. It's not so hard to take a listen, for example at ARIWA's Channel At Youtube or straight from the ARIWA website.

Female Vocals Reviewed (Studio Dubroom Download Review For Producers)

FEMALE VOCALS REVIEWED
STUDIO DUBROOM DOWNLOAD

Read More and Download

WWW, July 2014 - They have absolutely nothing to do with (DUB) Reggae as far as the online information gathered for this review has shown, but that doesn't really mean anything as far as (DUB) Reggae goes. A little cryptic perhaps, but nevertheless quite accurate when it comes to the three free female vocal packs reviewed in this article.

When King Tubby started to develop the Art of DUB, he started a technique that would be incorporated in just about every electronic musical genre you can think of, from Hip Hop to EDM. A few styles like Dubstep or Drum 'n' Bass even have Reggae phrases incorporated in their names. This mere fact alone completely justifies and explains why it could be interesting for your online (DUB) Reggae producer to browse a little bit through sample sites aimed at producers of EDM.

One aspect of Electronic Dance Music is the use of female vocals, very similar to the way vocals are used in Dub: lyrics, words, lines and adlibs drop in and out at strategic moments in the mix. This opens up a door of possibilities for the producer of DUB and even your non-DUB Reggae, because the availability of vocal packs for EDM producers is pretty wide.

For this review, we take a look at three different female vocal packs. The packs can be downloaded for free and they include a license for use in your productions, even commercial releases are possible. One nasty point: one of the packs can only be downloaded by registered members of Facebook but then you could get a friend who is registered at that website to do it for you.

First, there are two different packs containing the talented and skilled voice of UK based singer MANDY EDGE. They are available for free download at the SAMPLE RADAR website, you can find the first pack carrying 426 mB weight here, and the second one (237 mB) can be downloaded from this page. Then there is a free Vocal sample pack from UK based Dubstep Singer/Producer AIVA, which you can get after liking her on Facebook. That's just very unfortunate for those of us who do not have a Facebook account but then, again, you could ask someone who does.

All three packs contain a really impressive set of vocal lines, phrases and adlibs. They also contain lines and phrases that you might not want to use: slackness is easy to extract but then, slackness is always an easy road. In the same time, slackness is such a  thing where a self-inflicted blind spot usually functions very well. In fact, such a blind spot in necessary for all conscious artists wherever they perform or produce so let's take-this-truth-to-be-self-evident.

The samples come with information about pitch and BPM included in the filenames and folders, some are dry and others come with effects. The effected samples can easily be incorporated in an already existing tracks you might have made, the influence of DUB is not just undeniable present, these are dubbed vocals.

When used with care and respect for the singers, the way it should be done anywhere and everywhere, are -literary- priceless additions to your sound library. They can add an extra dimension to your track(s), and -depending on your creativity- that extra dimension does not have to be a "techno vibe" or something like that.

Just listen to the following 30 seconds of so with a Dubroom riddim and two vocal lines from the Sample Radar packs:

DOWNLOAD MP3

That's just two lines out of really hundreds that you can pick and insert. Creative minds will probably hear their own riddim behind it. Or take this track featuring two lines taken from AIVA's pack (among other things described here):

DOWNLOAD MP3

You can even say that just these two lines give a very special and atmospheric elements to the riddim, even an identifiable element in the sense that the lines keep ringing in your head after the track is done.

Three excellent vocal packs, well, more than excellent. These are very talented and skilled singers that control their voice in an impressive way. When done respectfully, the samples can bring your riddim(s) further without dragging everything into slackness or other evidently cheap abuse of the female part of our human race.

JUNIOR KELLY - RECEIVE
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

Read More, Get MP3

WWW, July 2014 - Contemporary Jamaican Reggae, with Junior Kelly riding the smooth riddim alongside backing vocals and a well worked out arrangement is something we can only thankfully... receive. As far as we could tell, the track was released on 7" vinyl in Jamaica and is now also available for free download at Junior Kelly's Reverb Nation page.

Junior Kelly shows just how versatile he is. A heavyweight Roots Rasta track or a more smooth one like this: he is perfectly able to voice the riddim and share a good vibration while doing so. Download "Receive" and while you're at his page at Reverb Nation, consider buying a track or two more.

WWW, July 2014 - Junior Kelly's life hasn't been easy. Born and raised in Kingston, he saw his older brother -a DJ for Kilimanjaro Sound System- brutally murdered. That's right, and on top of that his brother was the primary source of income for the whole family. He was also the example for his younger brother, who since then has been working hard to spread a positive message as a vocalist.

Knowing about this background of Junior Kelly can only lead you to a deep sense of respect for the Jamaican singer. Someone who does not turn to violence and criminality but instead uses music and spirituality is -or should be- an example to many. His affiliation is with the House of the Bobo Shanti and thus with artists like Capleton and Sizzla, but musically he takes a different direction and with that, he appeals to ones who prefer their Reggae sung rather than chanted over.
