THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (2)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 3, 2008

"THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (2)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 3 2008 - The Truth Movement came into existence, mostly because of the Internet itself.

Cyberspace showed us just how much we are actually being lied to by the mainstream media and the Church-And-State System we know as Babylon.

9/11 formed a katalysator for all of this. The official version of the conspiracy theory behind the events that killed thousands of people changed the "World Order" into a "New World Order" visible for everyone.

Thanks to the Internet, researchers from all over the world combined their insight and published their findings on the Internet.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - The best Reggae is always in the future, for otherwise the music would have died. But that's not a reason to not look back and not listen to some of the truly great works produced back in the days.

70's Reggae Scorcher does exactly that: taking a look back in time, when Reggae was only ten years old and digital technology was every Studio Engineer's wet dream.
And not just because it was the 1970's!

Jamaica is a country in the category so disdainfully called "Third World". Many of it's inhabitants are direct descendant of the slaves that were used to build the "New World" until they were "freed" only to live in poverty for centuries to come.

For many, many years in a row, Jamaica's capital Kingston Town was the top murder city in the world. It means, you have the biggest chance to get killed right there in Kingston Town.

Suffering, Big Time!

Corrupt police and government, downpressive military, the USA right around the corner with their War on Poor People, Churches preaching total obedience to the very system that brought their forefathers in chains on the SlaveShip "Jesus of Bismarck", all of this and much more has to be taken into consideration when listening to the great music in this great Podcast.

The material with which the music is produced, the instruments and microphones and everything, you really had to have talent and creativity on top of that as well as motivation to produce even a bad recorded tune.

Still, the result is indeed a "scorcher", as they say. This is the kind of music that Hollywood can only have wet dreams of, even when they have top notch material at their disposal.

Listen to beautiful singing by the Mighty Diamonds, first class drum and bass lines by Sly and Robbie, mystical psychedelic vibes from Augustus Pablo who made the melodica into one of the most desired instruments in DUB Culture even decades later.

Listen and feel why some people call this JAH Music...

Nuff said!

THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (1)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 2, 2008

"THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 2 2008 - As we see the Internet bringing people and movements together, these last years we have witnessed how conscious Rasta and Reggae websites team up with others in what is usually called the "Truth Movement".

Just like the Movement of Rastafari is diverse and cannot be placed in one "religious" box, so is this "Truth Movement".

Rootical Christians and conscious Rasta's, and those who are both, contribute to the Truth Movement in an increasing manner as well.

The Dubroom only contributes in a humble way to this massive Movement that only has one thing in common: A love for the truth.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - Remember Tenor Saw's "Ring The Alarm", and Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam"? Sure, they're both on the same riddim but there's another connection to be discovered.

With the exception of one or two digital contemporary remixes, each and every track in this Podcast comes straight out the 1980's catalogue of what was one of the leading labels in the Rub a Dub time.

We hear true gems by a then very young Sister Nancy. Tenor Saw's classic "Ring The Alarm" comes to us in three different versions, we hear some rather obscure Dillinger Tracks and Augustus Pablo enters in every now and then as well.

The Techniques label was founded by Winston Riley, who in the 1960's was part of a group call The Techniques, of which we can also hear a track. But the group should not be confused with the label that would decades later release some crucial Rub a Dub niceness, even though Winston Riley was behind the label too.

Winston Riley is also responsible for the Stalag Riddim. Definitely one of the most played Reggae riddims of all times, and so it should not be a surprise to hear a couple of Stalag tunes right at the start.

However, to limit the view on what the Techniques Label released on the Stalag riddim is to do seriously short to Winston Riley's work. And that is a thing DJ Dr. Tahl doesn't want to do.

The result is an interesting excursion into Rub a Dub with a few sidesteps into a more recent time-frame but only because of the reflections of the past that they contain.

Definitely designed to make you move and groove from the top to the very last drop.

It all has to do with the Internet bringing people together, in what really is a movement that transcends physical and cultural borders without being just another aspect of "Globalism".

STRICKTLY WARM VIBES
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - Stricktly Warm Vibes contains a crucial selection of many well-known classics such as "Police and Thieves" and "Police in Helicopters", all presented skillfully by Brooklyn's own DJ Dr. Tahl.

Sometimes, it's nice to hear some classics. Not, because they were never played before. Quite the contrary, I would say. But this very fact may cause some of us to not really check these tracks out as much as we should.

When was the last time you played Junior Murvin's "Police and Thieves", for example? Or Culture's "See Dem a Come"? And what about the solid Rub a Dub on John Holt's "Police in Helicopters"?

You get the point.

Yours truly had not checked them out for what may very well be a number of years!

This is where the Doctor comes in. He knows what we shouldn't forget and subsequently gives it to us. Together with a number of lesser known tracks, we hear the classics once again and feel ashamed over what we sometimes forget.

Evaluating 2007 (10)

Dubroom Online - Edition December 31, 2007

"EVALUATING 2007 (10)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 31 2007 - This day concludes another calendar year. For the Dubroom, a turbulent and dynamic year in which the intensity increased.

People came together, from several parts of the globe, united in a love for the truth and a love for Reggae Music. Truthlovers were introduced to Reggae, and conscious Reggae lovers were introduced to other conscious people.

Next year, Jah Willing, we will pay much more attention to that other, enigmatic aspect of the Dubroom: Consciousness.

Have a peaceful transition!

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - When the music starts playing after 30 seconds, DJ Ian Irie has already taken us straight into a DEEP ROOTS VIBE.

Ambassada Hi-Power is a UK based Sound System that traces it's roots back to the 1970's. Obviously, this says a thing or two and one of these "things" is SHAKA.
JAH SHAKA, to be precise.

"More Rootical Culture, Selector!" opens up with a big up to the man whose name is synonymous with militant and conscious Roots Music presented with deep bass and upfull lyrics. JAH Shaka's Sound System has inspired and keeps inspiring people to Chant Down Babylon too.

In the UK, Conscious and militant Sound Systems even form a genre in themselves. You could speak about a Rootical Culture, definitely. And so it is no surprise when one Conscious Sound System bigs up another instead of mashing him down as we see so often in other Dancehalls.

The Rootical Culture can also be recognized by experiencing -rather than listening- to the Podcast. Reggae Music productions from all times and places come together and DJ Ian Irie's Mixing Board makes sure that everything blends together into a harmonic Inity.

Indeed: More Rootical Culture, Selector!
