MYSTERY BABYLON (1)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 5, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 5 2008 - A word that you'll find over and over again when you listen to Reggae Music, is "Babylon". It's the name of an ancient city, but there is much more about it all.

You can find the word in the Bible too, where she is called "Mystery Babylon".

She? Yes.

Babylon is a city, a system, a mystery, a religion, and an entity.

Mysteries are usually portrayed as mysterious, but the fact that we find this description of Mystery Babylon in a book called the Apocalypse says a thing.

For the word Apocalypse means "Revelation"!

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - With the recent release (and Dubroom review) of a video documentary "Summer Sound In Canada", shot entirely in 1970's, it's clear: Reggae has a history in Canada and it goes back several decades.

Willy Williams, Johnny Osbourne, Jammy's, Jackie Mittoo: several Jamaican names in Reggae have lived in Canada or keep living there until this day. Where the rest of the world thinks about Canada as just another word for the North-Pole, in reality there are some very interesting things to be discovered when you're into Reggae and we are, right?

We already met Mick Sleeper, as this is the review of his 13th Podcast and we've been to all 12 that went before this one. We know, that he knows his Reggae and gladly shares some of his collection with us.

Did we know, that he hails from somewhere in Canada?

Well, we will after listening to this mix.

He plays a massive selection of stricktly Canadian Reggae productions, and so we will know about a lot of Canadian artists that need to be heard by the online (DUB) Reggae community as well.

Upfull Rub a Dub, deep Dub and foundational Roots Reggae: everything is well represented and definitely serves as a teaser, as you want to discover more about Roots and Culture in that country just north of the U S of A.

THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (3)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 4, 2008

"THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (3)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 4 2008 - Obviously, the Truth Movement is as diverse as let's say the Movement of Rastafari. It's infiltrated too, corrupted, full of diversion and in-fights.

Obviously, each and everyone got to think for themselves and digest the information, in short, do their own research.

We live in a world, where consciousness simply is a must. Consciousness, as in awareness.

For the time wherein one could simply ignore the voice of the Rastaman and others, the pre-Internet days, are definitely over.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - An uplifting selection of massive Roots Reggae Music, starting with Dillinger's Ragnampaza: get ready for 55 minutes of pure niceness for Jah Children.

Vocalists, DJ's and DUB engineers: all well represented in Killer Roots. A great non-stop no-nonsense mix that you want to play again and again because of the strong vibes destined to kill of all the bad vibes.

All Killer, No Filler, and still there are highlights that stand out. The opening track, for example: one of Dillinger's most energetic tunes ever and that says something.

Another one is Prince Alla's vision of the Great Stone, followed by King Tubby's legendary DUB version of the track of which the King of DUB himself said it came from "somewhere".

The mix itself has an emphasis on 1970's Roots Rock Reggae, and contains a fair representation of several relevant producers and studio's.

Next to King Tubby's, there Lee Perry's Black Ark, for example. It was there, that Junior Marvin recorded his classic "Police and Thieves" as well as the prophetic "Tedious" that may very well come true in our time as many think.

A third highlight, by the way...

Killer Roots, indeed. You want to have this 55 minutes, because you want to play it more than once!

THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (2)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 3, 2008

"THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (2)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 3 2008 - The Truth Movement came into existence, mostly because of the Internet itself.

Cyberspace showed us just how much we are actually being lied to by the mainstream media and the Church-And-State System we know as Babylon.

9/11 formed a katalysator for all of this. The official version of the conspiracy theory behind the events that killed thousands of people changed the "World Order" into a "New World Order" visible for everyone.

Thanks to the Internet, researchers from all over the world combined their insight and published their findings on the Internet.

70'S REGGAE SCORCHER
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - The best Reggae is always in the future, for otherwise the music would have died. But that's not a reason to not look back and not listen to some of the truly great works produced back in the days.

70's Reggae Scorcher does exactly that: taking a look back in time, when Reggae was only ten years old and digital technology was every Studio Engineer's wet dream.
And not just because it was the 1970's!

Jamaica is a country in the category so disdainfully called "Third World". Many of it's inhabitants are direct descendant of the slaves that were used to build the "New World" until they were "freed" only to live in poverty for centuries to come.

For many, many years in a row, Jamaica's capital Kingston Town was the top murder city in the world. It means, you have the biggest chance to get killed right there in Kingston Town.

Suffering, Big Time!

Corrupt police and government, downpressive military, the USA right around the corner with their War on Poor People, Churches preaching total obedience to the very system that brought their forefathers in chains on the SlaveShip "Jesus of Bismarck", all of this and much more has to be taken into consideration when listening to the great music in this great Podcast.

The material with which the music is produced, the instruments and microphones and everything, you really had to have talent and creativity on top of that as well as motivation to produce even a bad recorded tune.

Still, the result is indeed a "scorcher", as they say. This is the kind of music that Hollywood can only have wet dreams of, even when they have top notch material at their disposal.

Listen to beautiful singing by the Mighty Diamonds, first class drum and bass lines by Sly and Robbie, mystical psychedelic vibes from Augustus Pablo who made the melodica into one of the most desired instruments in DUB Culture even decades later.

Listen and feel why some people call this JAH Music...

Nuff said!

THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (1)

Dubroom Online - Edition January 2, 2008

"THE TRUTH MOVEMENT (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, January 2 2008 - As we see the Internet bringing people and movements together, these last years we have witnessed how conscious Rasta and Reggae websites team up with others in what is usually called the "Truth Movement".

Just like the Movement of Rastafari is diverse and cannot be placed in one "religious" box, so is this "Truth Movement".

Rootical Christians and conscious Rasta's, and those who are both, contribute to the Truth Movement in an increasing manner as well.

The Dubroom only contributes in a humble way to this massive Movement that only has one thing in common: A love for the truth.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2007 - Remember Tenor Saw's "Ring The Alarm", and Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam"? Sure, they're both on the same riddim but there's another connection to be discovered.

With the exception of one or two digital contemporary remixes, each and every track in this Podcast comes straight out the 1980's catalogue of what was one of the leading labels in the Rub a Dub time.

We hear true gems by a then very young Sister Nancy. Tenor Saw's classic "Ring The Alarm" comes to us in three different versions, we hear some rather obscure Dillinger Tracks and Augustus Pablo enters in every now and then as well.

The Techniques label was founded by Winston Riley, who in the 1960's was part of a group call The Techniques, of which we can also hear a track. But the group should not be confused with the label that would decades later release some crucial Rub a Dub niceness, even though Winston Riley was behind the label too.

Winston Riley is also responsible for the Stalag Riddim. Definitely one of the most played Reggae riddims of all times, and so it should not be a surprise to hear a couple of Stalag tunes right at the start.

However, to limit the view on what the Techniques Label released on the Stalag riddim is to do seriously short to Winston Riley's work. And that is a thing DJ Dr. Tahl doesn't want to do.

The result is an interesting excursion into Rub a Dub with a few sidesteps into a more recent time-frame but only because of the reflections of the past that they contain.

Definitely designed to make you move and groove from the top to the very last drop.
