MYSTERY BABYLON (197)

Dubroom Online - December 7, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (197)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 7 2008 - Basically, when Babylon is exposed, the slaves start to feel uncomfortable. They start to feel the danger which made them turn to Babylon in the first place.

Their Komfort Zone is seriously disturbed, and they will start to attack you with every weapon they can think of.

I witnessed this to the fullness in my steps out of the "Christian Reggae Scene", which obviously serves as an example for the bigger picture too.

A bigger picture, which I tried to describe almost throughout this whole year in my daily column for the Dubroom.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2008 - In this energetic dual concert, Pablo Moses and the Meditations provide their audience with some crucial Rastaman Vibrations.

It's all there: long part of drum and bass, guitar solo's chanting and reasoning. Pablo Moses and the Meditations give an energetic performance in this music hall that was famous for hosting crucial Reggae bands throughout the time of it's existence.

The recording quality is fair, as the sound was taken directly from the mixing board. Sure, there's a bit of feedback here and there, a wrong note on other places too, and obviously the sound was mixed for the location rather than for the recording.

Bless Up!

WWW, November 2008 - Luciano meets Sizzla, and together they go up to the hill of the Bobo Shanti Rasta. To chant down Babylon, and to congregate among brethren.

In this 1996 video, we see the Messenger as he wants to find a place to rest. Suffering in the ghetto's, wars and rumors of wars, death and destruction takes it's toll and it's not just the ones who die that suffer.

As we walk along with him, we land in Creation, in Nature, where Jah Works are seen and felt and freedom is tasted. We meet Sizzla and he receives more power during his meeting with his brethren and with the Creator as he trods through creation.

MYSTERY BABYLON (196)

Dubroom Online - December 6, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (196)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 6 2008 - Just like Nimrod, the founder of Babylon, kept people in slavery by providing them a (false) sense of security, so does the "Gospel Reggae Industry" provide a (false) sense of security.

By creating an "enemy image" of the "Bad Rasta" to Christians and "Christians", a sense of danger is created in the hearts and souls of the people.

In order to "feel good", still, for that is the purpose of most people, without the "threat of the evil Rastaman", they created their own little prison called the "Christian Reggae Scene" which later became the "Gospel Reggae Industry".

Every attempt to try and unite true Christians and true Rastafarians, and especially those who are both, would obviously expose the deception and trickery that formed the "information about Rastafari" that most Christians believe in.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - The Two-Tone roots of our host becomes clear in his Whiteboard/Blackboard podcast, as he gives an excellent selection of Black Reggae Music, from Bunny Wailer's Rockers to the Rasta Punk of Bad Brains.

Reggae Music was, is, and will always be Black Music. However, this is not Black Music as defined by the Musical Industrial Complex, which simply tells people to make music according to the color of their skin.

Reggae Music is Black Music in this sense, that the music will always, to quote a Mad Professor jingle, "work for a positive image of Black People". Reggae Music is there as a force of liberation, of emancipation, of Black People.

In the nine tracks of this selection, we celebrate Black Reggae Music, from Jamaica to the UK to even the USA where we find Rastafarian Punk/Reggae band Bad Brains chanting down Babylon.

DUB, vocals, even the magnificent "Free Rhodesia" where just about everyone in Jamaica's who's who of 1970's Reggae is present as well as presented. The result is a long, jazzy jam that doesn't leave the solid foundation of Bass and Drums which define Reggae Music.

Black Up!

WWW, November 2008 - Hammersmith Palace was the scene for an energetic, lively, conscious and above all historic event, when Prince Lincoln and the Royal Rasses performed.

Right after the introduction, the band starts playing an impressive intro. Of course, you must have been there to feel it, but the vibes still radiate from the screen when watching this video.

When Prince Lincoln enters stage, the vibe is right and the tones are set. The horns start to play, the Prince starts to sing, the music flood like rain.

MYSTERY BABYLON (195)

Dubroom Online - December 5, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (195)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 5 2008 - When I started to expose what was going on in the "Christian Reggae Scene", before it became the "Gospel Reggae Industry" that it now is, all hell broke loose.

I faced the mechanism which is used by Babylon, to keep her slaves... policing each other.

It's actually very logical, and it goes like this.

The reason why people would come together and form a "Christian Reggae Scene" in itself has nothing to do with the Teachings of Yesus Kristos.

It's basically the search for a good feeling, a false sense of "safety", wherein one does not have to face the dangers that come with freedom.

WELCOME TO WHITEBOARD JUNGLE
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - Whiteboard is the first of a two-part Podcast in the Two Tone tradition that gave birth to a whole movement in the UK during the 1980's.

Two-tone was a form of up-tempo Reggae called Ska. It was not to be confused with 1960's Jamaican Ska, as it combined Reggae with other forms of Music as well.

The name Two-tone referred to black and white, which have to unite in a divided society like the UK in the 1980's where the Movement was born. Black and white youths came together and created a whole new culture. Even the neo-nazi Skinheads had to take their names from Jamaica, who also had their Skinheads in the 1960's.

It's true, just like Ska, skinheads originally existed in Jamaica during the 1960's. You could therefore even say, that Neo-Nazi Skinheads are skinheads who forgot their roots.

The idea and philosophy of Two-Tone can also be found in Reggae Music. Most Reggae groups and collectives in the UK had black and white members, both influencing the development of what we now know as UK DUB and ROOTS.

In Whiteboard Jungle, we explore some of the better material that is produced in the UK throughout the recent years. Material which would could be called "Two Tone Reggae" if you will. Material by bands like Nucleus Roots and producers like Steve Vibronics.

We also take a short excursion to the UK, where the Punky Reggae party continues with Dub Heads like the Phaser Selector Sound.

The show starts up rather laid-back. Nice vibes to chill-out to. About half-way through, the vibe starts to become more and more DUB. Aba Shanti, Nucleus Roots, Vibronics: they certainly war the heart of every self-respecting lover of the better DUB.
