MYSTERY BABYLON (198)

Dubroom Online - December 8, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (198)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 8 2008 - Throughout this last month or so, I used my own story as I Stepped Out Of the Babylon that is now the "Gospel Reggae industry" as an example of the bigger picture.

My first step, was that I realized I was not in the right place. I equally knew that I was not created to be doing what I was supposed to be doing in that "Christian Reggae Scene", namely to Konform to Babylon's Norm.

My second step was to start Speaking the Truth. Not, that I was speaking lies before that, but I mean with this, to say the Truth when it must be said and not to bow down for the pressure that came from the slaves who were seriously disturbed in their Komfort Zone as I was speaking out.

BURNING SPEAR LIVE AT REGGAE SUNSPLASH 1986
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2008 - This historical recording gives us Winston Rodney and his Burning Band performing in Jamaica during the time of his album "Resistance".

A Burning Spear performance is an experience. It has been so for decades, now. Take this concert: it brings us back to 1986, when Rub a Dub was hot and digital devices entered in the studio... and on stage.

Burning Spear has always done his own thing while around him all these things were happening and developing. Sticking to his own form of Roots Reggae, also in the times of Yellowman and Barrington Levy.

No difference here, either.

The concert gets hotter and hotter, better and better. Just like the recording, that is. Listen through the first 15-20 minutes and hear the quality improve.

Another piece of Reggae Niceness fe true!

WWW, November 2008 - Black Uhuru's name is inseparably connected with the names of Mikal Rose, Puma Jones, Duckie Simpson, Sly and Robbie. In this video, we see only one of them.

Don Carlos and Junior Reid are two great Reggae vocalists who have been members of Black Uhuru throughout the group's history. In this video, we team up with Junior Reid as the lead vocalists with Duckie Simpson as everlasting member of the group.

Junior Reid obviously has the voice that keeps everything together, while many people will surely miss the drum and basslines by Sly and Robbie as well.

Still, this is not a video to skip, as we see Junior Reid doing a wonderful performance. Original Foreign Mind in itself has become a classic, which says a thing when considered neither Sly nor Robbie was there.

MYSTERY BABYLON (197)

Dubroom Online - December 7, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (197)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 7 2008 - Basically, when Babylon is exposed, the slaves start to feel uncomfortable. They start to feel the danger which made them turn to Babylon in the first place.

Their Komfort Zone is seriously disturbed, and they will start to attack you with every weapon they can think of.

I witnessed this to the fullness in my steps out of the "Christian Reggae Scene", which obviously serves as an example for the bigger picture too.

A bigger picture, which I tried to describe almost throughout this whole year in my daily column for the Dubroom.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, December 2008 - In this energetic dual concert, Pablo Moses and the Meditations provide their audience with some crucial Rastaman Vibrations.

It's all there: long part of drum and bass, guitar solo's chanting and reasoning. Pablo Moses and the Meditations give an energetic performance in this music hall that was famous for hosting crucial Reggae bands throughout the time of it's existence.

The recording quality is fair, as the sound was taken directly from the mixing board. Sure, there's a bit of feedback here and there, a wrong note on other places too, and obviously the sound was mixed for the location rather than for the recording.

Bless Up!

WWW, November 2008 - Luciano meets Sizzla, and together they go up to the hill of the Bobo Shanti Rasta. To chant down Babylon, and to congregate among brethren.

In this 1996 video, we see the Messenger as he wants to find a place to rest. Suffering in the ghetto's, wars and rumors of wars, death and destruction takes it's toll and it's not just the ones who die that suffer.

As we walk along with him, we land in Creation, in Nature, where Jah Works are seen and felt and freedom is tasted. We meet Sizzla and he receives more power during his meeting with his brethren and with the Creator as he trods through creation.

MYSTERY BABYLON (196)

Dubroom Online - December 6, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (196)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 6 2008 - Just like Nimrod, the founder of Babylon, kept people in slavery by providing them a (false) sense of security, so does the "Gospel Reggae Industry" provide a (false) sense of security.

By creating an "enemy image" of the "Bad Rasta" to Christians and "Christians", a sense of danger is created in the hearts and souls of the people.

In order to "feel good", still, for that is the purpose of most people, without the "threat of the evil Rastaman", they created their own little prison called the "Christian Reggae Scene" which later became the "Gospel Reggae Industry".

Every attempt to try and unite true Christians and true Rastafarians, and especially those who are both, would obviously expose the deception and trickery that formed the "information about Rastafari" that most Christians believe in.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, November 2008 - The Two-Tone roots of our host becomes clear in his Whiteboard/Blackboard podcast, as he gives an excellent selection of Black Reggae Music, from Bunny Wailer's Rockers to the Rasta Punk of Bad Brains.

Reggae Music was, is, and will always be Black Music. However, this is not Black Music as defined by the Musical Industrial Complex, which simply tells people to make music according to the color of their skin.

Reggae Music is Black Music in this sense, that the music will always, to quote a Mad Professor jingle, "work for a positive image of Black People". Reggae Music is there as a force of liberation, of emancipation, of Black People.

In the nine tracks of this selection, we celebrate Black Reggae Music, from Jamaica to the UK to even the USA where we find Rastafarian Punk/Reggae band Bad Brains chanting down Babylon.

DUB, vocals, even the magnificent "Free Rhodesia" where just about everyone in Jamaica's who's who of 1970's Reggae is present as well as presented. The result is a long, jazzy jam that doesn't leave the solid foundation of Bass and Drums which define Reggae Music.

Black Up!
