"THIS IS THE DUBROOM (1)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 2 2009 - The Dubroom promotes (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness, on an equal basis.

Of course, this means that not all visitors/readers of the Dubroom may be interested in everything with the same amount of interest.

Still, statistics show that a significant part of those that have subscribed themselves to one or more of ours lists/feeds, are interested in the overall content of the Dubroom.

This fact may surprise one person, where the other will see the logic behind it. For, even though one can and should criticize the statement, it is somehow true that (DUB) Reggae and Consciousness are connected with each other.

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

"QUITE A CLEAN-UP" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, September 1 2009 - It was a very intense job, but a few days ago I was finally ready with cleaning up the Dubroom MP3 Portal.

No less that 111 pages were moved into the MP3 Museum, where they rest in their retirement.

Quite a clean-up!

It doesn't mean that the Portal is empty now, though...

As we continue with our daily series of Dubroom Online MP3 reviews, the MP3 Portal obviously grows along. New pages will be added, many will be updated, as the flood of music just keeps on coming.

Take a look at the MP3's scheduled for this month, and hopefully you find more than just a few tunes you would really like to download.

"HORTENSE ELLIS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, August 30 2009 - Today, we feature the brand new Dubroom Artist Page for Hortense Ellis. She's also currently featured artist in the Dubroom MP3 Portal, and not without reason.

Of course, one major reason is the fact that there are over 70 free MP3's available by this singer, who was Female Singer Of The Year in the Jamaica of 1964.

Another reason rests in the reason why all these MP3's are available for free.

Recently I was contacted by a family member of the singer, who told me that none of the royalties that were ever paid over her music came into the hands of those that need it, namely her children.

They felt it was better for the fans of the singer, who unfortunately passed away in 2000, to not feed the parasites who charge for download but don't pay royalties to Hortense's heirs, but instead download the music for free.

"DREAD AT THE CONTROLS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, August 29 2009 - Today, Dubroom Online features the brand new Dubroom Artist Page for Mikey Dread.

The original Mikey Dread, that is.

He needs to be respected and acknowledged as one very important person in Reggae History and Development.

A week or so ago, we had an MP3 review of the great "Propper Education" in it's extended version, where Mikey Dread's MP3 page on the Dubroom already contained some niceness by the brother, who unfortunately passed away just recently.

Jah willing, Dubroom Online is going to review a whole lot more crucial tunes by Michael "Dread At The Controls" Campbell, among which some serious Dubs and Toasting tracks.

"RUB A DUB CLASSICS" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, August 28 2009 - Many people seem to think, that Reggae Music somehow stopped being Reggae Music somewhere in the mid to early 1980's. At least, in the collection of many Reggae collectors, the amount of albums and music from the 1970's is more often than not bigger than that of younger times.

They're missing out some things for sure, but not if they read today's edition of Dubroom Online.

Today and tomorrow, the MP3's reviewed for Dubroom Online are two true Rub a Dub classics. When these tunes came out, they were among the hottest ones.

I personally remember these times, and the impact it had on me back then. The sound was fresh, because of the subtle Dub mixing and the fact that the music seemed to be slower than just a couple of years before that, when Rockers was the predominant style in Reggae.

In the meantime, these -then new- tunes have become classics, essential listening for everyone who is interested in in the history of Reggae Music.

"REGGAE GOT HOUSE" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, August 27 2009 - The MP3 reviewed for this edition of Dubroom Online is a perfect example of how contemporary Dance music and Reggae fit very well together because of the similarities between the structure of both the music and the mix in the two musical genres.

It equally shows an aspect of Reggae Music, namely to absorb the vibe of the time and of other genres, only to capture it within the rhythmical structures of Reggae Music.

Just think about Toots and the Maytalls' "Reggae Got Soul", for example. People who love(d) Soul Music would recognize the track as a Soul Track, especially when they would "never" have heard of Reggae Music before.

Aswad's "This Sound" could also be called "Reggae Got House"...
