"EVALUATING 2009 (18)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 19 2009 - The Dubroom looks back at a good year, this year. Three successful projects, that's something to be grateful about and so I give thanks.

There were also things that didn't went the way I planned them. Especially in my personal life, that is.

I even wrote an article about it called "Making Jah Laugh" in a variation on Woody Allen who once said: "You want to make Jah laugh? Tell Him about your plans".

Plans concerning the Dubroom Studio, for example, didn't go the way we planned it. Jah had other things for us to do, but we still work on getting the studio fit for recording musicians and mixing Dub old-skool style.

"EVALUATING 2009 (17)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 18 2009 - The moving of the Dubroom Message Boards, the clean-up of the Dubroom's MP3 Portal and the introduction of the Dubroom Artist Pages are three successful projects.

We started a series called "Dubroom Online MP3 Reviews", where from August 16 until December 31 there was at least one MP3 review in our daily editions of Dubroom Online.

On top of that series, we showcased a number of artists, ones like Jah Free, Edit Fitzroy, No More Babylon, Nucleus Roots and of course Mikey Dread.

However, there were also things which didn't went as planned.

"EVALUATING 2009 (16)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 17 2009 - Where no less than 111 pages were moved to the MP3 museum, already there are about 50 new artists at mp3.dubroom.org, all recently added. In the time I write this, there are a lot to come, still, too!

Together with the introduction of the brand new section of Dubroom Artist Pages, the clean-up of the MP3 Portal was by far the biggest project of 2009, when it comes to the Dubroom.

Perhaps there is another one too.

The demise of Xsorbit, the former hosting company for the Dubroom Message Boards, and the subsequent move to Yuku, was indeed another project.

A WHO TRAP BUJU?

WWW, December 2009 - The news that Buju Banton was arrested in Florida (USA) for the bizarre claim of "conspiracy to posses more than five kilo of cocaine" caused waves of responses all over Babylon. From the "Gay Rights Activists" to Idrens in the Movement of Rastafari, everybody agrees that this has to do with his musical works rather than the alleged claims.

A report.

It's no secret: there's a war going on between the "Gay Rights Activists" and Dancehall artists/fans and it has to do with the fact that in Jamaica homosexuality is illegal and rejected in the Bible as well.

One major target for the calls to boycott Reggae/Dancehall and Jamaica is Buju Banton.

His latest tour saw many "Gay Rights Activists" fighting fiercely not only against Buju Banton and Dancehall music, but even against Rasta. Slightly bigger pictureIn a dirty play on the title of Buju's latest album "Rasta got Soul", they've dubbed their hate-campaign "Rasta got Hate" (See left).

The "Gay Rights" movement was -until a few days ago- working very hard to get Buju Banton out of a job. The fact that his latest album was nominated for the Reggae Grammy Awards had made them furious as hell. So furious, that Buju reportedly got attacked with pepper spray after having a meeting with representants of the "Gay Rights Activists" in San Francisco.Slightly bigger picture

It's no secret what the "Gay Rights Activists" want. It's actually pretty well pictured in the pictured cartoon (right). Even though the pictured situation is too absurd to view as realistically possible, what did happen in reality came close.

A few years ago they basically forced a number of Dancehall artists to sign a thing called "Reggae Compassionate Act", a document wherein one "Gay Rights Activist" had basically come up with his own definition of "One Love" and even Reggae in general and had people like Sizzla, Beenie Man and Buju Banton signing the thing. (PDF)

Now you can visit websites where under headlines like "Buju Banton's violations of the Reggae Compassionate Act" you can find all kind of "evidence" and even "proof" that Buju sinned against the dictate called Reggae Compassionate Act. It's all about his "Boom Boom Bye Bye" tune, an anti-homosexual tune he wrote when he was still a teenager and which then went on to live a life of it's own, hunting Banton until this very day.

Yes, that one is for certain: Buju Banton is hunted down by forces of Babylon on many levels.

Click for website and leave comment Hunted down by what can be called a mob, with their mind set at destroying Jamaica and Reggae Music, starting with Buju Banton. A mob which presents themselves on websites, like that one which has the Jamaican flag with a bloodstain on it.

Apparently now also hunted down by the Drug Police in the USA, which is known to set up traps and provoke and infiltrate in groups and whose spokespeople are now claiming that Buju Banton was involved in a "conspiracy to buy over five kilo of cocaine". A claim that Buju vigorously denies through his lawyer. (LINK)

The anti-Buju websites radiate the enormous pleasure "Gay Rights Activists" have over Buju's arrest. Some examples:

In even more great news, murder-music Grammy nominee Buju Banton is currently sitting in a federal lockup in Miami, charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilos of cocaine. Because I'm a nice person, I will charitably say no more. Except this ... MWA-HA-HA CHORTLE CHORTLE GUFFAW!
http://www.afterelton.com/blog/snicks/bagel-12-14-2009

anti-gay, murder-music singer Buju Banton is sitting all nice and cozy-like in a Miami jail cell
http://www.miketidmus.com/blog/2009/12/12/buju-banton-busted/

The view of Buju Banton in an American prison, where if called guilty he can face up to 20 years, apparently does not trigger any compassion by the ones who dictated to Rastas and Dancehall vocalists just what "One Love" is and boasted how "compassionate" they are, that's for sure.

At the moment this article is written, there is not anything known about just when Buju Banton will go before a judge, if or when he can get bailed out, but we'll keep you posted.

"EVALUATING 2009 (15)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 16 2009 - The MP3 portal is growing into a more than interesting place for people looking for free and legal (DUB) Reggae Mp3 files. I think one can even say that it has never been so interesting as it became in these last months of 2009.

Labels with promo-tracks, Net Labels with complete albums, and of course the artists themselves who put their music online, they're all represented and reviewed and the end is not yet in sight.

Our access to this huge collection of free and legal tunes brought us not just music which the labels already decided to give away as promo-tracks, the Dubroom also successfully requested for a Scientist tune released by the Auralux label to be available as free download.

For which we give thanks.

"EVALUATING 2009 (14)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 15 2009 - By getting the possibility to put so many crucial music on-site, the Dubroom's MP3 portal had the biggest clean-up in it's history.

I had to move the pages of around 100 artists into the MP3 Museum. The musical works that were reviewed were no longer online, mostly because they had their music on an OMD like download.com or mp3.com and these sites went offline.

Fortunately, in the same time, the portal was rebuild and now you can find names there like Sugar Minott, Scientist, Frankie Paul, and many more. Mind you: the portal is still under construction and will remain to be very interesting to visit.

Jah Willing, that is.

"EVALUATING 2009 (13)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, December 14 2009 - After a hiatus and a close-to-nervous- breakdown situation in the summer of 2009, in which the Dubroom was hardly updated, August saw the beginning of what would become the major theme of the Dubroom until the end of this year: free and legal MP3's, loads and loads and even more loads of free and legal (DUB) Reggae MP3's.

First of all, we discovered EZTRACKS which is nice, but more important: the Dubroom acquired access to a large collection of free and legal mp3's, under which hundreds of Reggae tunes.

From the middle of August to the end of December, the Dubroom featured several MP3's on a daily basis.

WWW, December 13 2009 - In the summer of this year, I was at the edge of a nervous break-down. Couldn't eat or drink, would be worrying and doing things all day, and it all had to do with some very intense things going on in my private life.

It was so happy that even though I took a month off from Dubroom, I was unable to update the site even for a week after that and when I could, all I could was writing an update basically explained how I was unable to do a thing.

For two years, I had to deal with all kind of official people and organizations, in different countries and with different functions. The climax came in the summer as many delayed things came on my desktop together with things planned for that time as well...

Not to mention the things that came before they were planned...
