DUB NON-STOP (MIX)

DUB NON-STOP (MIX)
DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

WWW, October 2008 - Eighty minutes of High Quality Low Frequency vibes: classic Jamaican DUB from the 1970's and early 1980's from the top to the very last drop!

While listening, or rather: experiencing this Podcast, we're taken from one Jamaican studio to the next. Everywhere we go, the drum and bass play a crucial foundational line as the DUB engineers put their own personal mark on the several tracks that we can hear throughout the 80 minutes.

This was the time, and the place, wherein DUB music was developed and reached the artistical status it currently has. The time and place, wherein the engineer behind the mixing board became an artist himself years before the concept would be adopted by newer musical styles such as House and Techno.

Studio's like Channel One and Lee Perry's Black Ark released numerous tunes with numerous vocalists all doing their own thing in what was an explosion of creativity, producing material that until this very day makes one and ones move and groove once more.

Check it out, enjoy the deep deep bass and high quality sound, enjoy a selection of known, lesser-known and rather unknown material.

After all: Dubbing Is A Must!

CHOC'LATE AND QUEEN IFRICA - FRIENDS

CHOC'LATE AND QUEEN IFRICA - FRIENDS
DUBROOM VIDEO REVIEW

WWW, October 2008 - In this video, we meet female vocalists Queen Ifrica and Choc'late as they hail up family and friendship in an upfull, joyful tune.

Positive vibes fe true in this video clip produced by Wayne Benjamin, a hard working brother whose many productions all feature up and coming Jamaican vocalists. Time and time again, he provides another proof of the fact that consciousness has not left Jamaica, in spite of what some people sometimes might think.

The two sistren in featured in this video clip big up friendship and family in a heartfelt tune. The riddim is upfull and joyful, has a few slices of dancehall but can overall be considered as a fine, contemporary, Roots Reggae tune.

Feel!

MYSTERY BABYLON (146)

Dubroom Online - October 17, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (146)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, October 17 2008 - The reason why it is harder to actually Step Out Of Babylon rather than singing the words on a drum and bass driven rhythm, is that we have a lot of reason to cover up for ourselves that we actually quite like it, down here, in a way.

We're initiated into the Mystery: she makes us think that we are this-or-that. She makes us think that we need her to live our lifes. She tempts us with organized religion and politricks which gives us a (false) sense of stability when we move within her shitstem.

She even goes so far to make it a trend to call everything "Babylon", with the result that for many it has degraded to just another word one can come up with to describe something one doesn't really feel good about.

We have to realize, that when we really want to step out of Babylon, this has nothing to do with anything else but a spiritual, or at least a mental repatriation to our Creator rather than servitude to the pirates that loot His creation since ages and call it "civilization".

JAHRANIMO AND JAH CURE - I'M FREE
DUBROOM VIDEO REVIEW

WWW, October 2008 - Brand New, Good For You: straight from the prison into the studio, Jah Cure is backing Jahranimo in another great video by Jamaican producer Wayne Benjamin.

One says this, and the other says that about Jah Cure. The well-known Jamaican vocalist spent a long time in jail for rape and even though there are several sides to (t)his story, it is obvious that he is back and not intending to take an unconscious road.

Whether he "did it" or not, Jah Cure is literally a description of what indeed is the cure given by the Most High Jah, which is forgiveness and redemption. And when the Name of Jah is called upon, then He should be taken into consideration.

Indeed: Jah Cure is free and he is now free to show what his name means. When this video is to be seen in that context, nothing but positivity can be said about it.

For this really is a remarkable video, and not only in the way just -more or less- described. The music is a relaxed Roots Reggae, the vocals resemble that of Beres Hammond, it has toasting and singing, a storyline, a message, and all that in just 3 minutes and 45 seconds.

Enjoy!

WWW, October 2008 - Just a month before the most notorious president of the USA will leave office, he gives a multi-trillion gift to his banker friends. The rest of the world, especially Europe, follows.

How the love for money surely is the root of all evil.

It is said, that US president George W. Bush has spent more money than all presidents before him combined. Throughout the eight years of his presence in the White House, he surely has become the symbol for all the crimes of the world elite.

Will he really go? When it turns out to be true what is written on several websites for several years now, George W will find one or another reason to postpone the election and turn what many think is the world's greatest democracy into the world's greatest overt dictatorship.

The current financial crisis which sweeps over the world could just be the very thing that will be used by the president to indeed postpone the election.

Every day, we hear on the news how the several important stock exchanges of the world had another "historical day". One bank after another goes bankrupt, and ministers of finance throughout the world act like magicians as they "inject the economy" with trillions and trillions of dollars. Money which will fade away the next day as the stock exchange will have another historical low.

Where does all that money go? In times wherein the so-called experts have to admit that all they know is that they know no thing, that question can't be answered. But the big bonuses that the CEO's take with them as their banks turn into government hands should give an indication.

In the Netherlands, it turns out that municipalities and provinces joined a group of 125,000 people who put their savings on an Iceland based Internet bank. The bank is bankrupt and the whole country is in turmoil as it is unsure whether people have lost their savings or not. The local governments have an even bigger problem as they lost money trusted to them by the taxpayers.

The Iceland-based bank was owned by a multi-millionaire who made his fortune in post-communist Russia. The latest news is that Russian money will be used again to pay the Dutch savers. The government of Iceland doesn't have the money, namely. The country is said to be.... bankrupt.

So, what is going on?

The current situation is far worse than 9/11. Where the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon would only reach people indirectly because of the idiotic Police State measure taken after the event, the financial crisis touches everyone where it hurts most people the most: in their wallets.

Many people have been wondering as to what would happen to give George W Bush the possibility to postpone the election. Stories about nukes in the city, terrorists here and there, this-and-that. But apparently, that trick won't fool all the people in this time.

Maybe the answer was given to us all the way, when another presidential candidate was quoted as saying to his opponent:

"It's the economy, stupid!"

MYSTERY BABYLON (145)

Dubroom Online - October 16, 2008

"MYSTERY BABYLON (145)" (WEBMASTER'S COLUMN)

WWW, October 16 2008 - "Step Out Of Her My People", is the Message of Jah when it comes to His people inna Babylon.
We can read it in the Bible, we can find it in the meaning of the word "Church" (meaning: "called out ones"), and most of all: we can see it when we do our research and find out the true, ugly face of Mystery Babylon.

Sounds more easy than the practice shows!

In many debates and "reasonings", you can find people who are defending their own initiation into the Mystery. They have identified themselves with the feelings that Babylon gives them.

But if we are to break free from Babylon, what we must do first is realize our identity. Not the things you read on your Big Brother Passport, but the real you.

No, there's no playlist available. But they're all there: King Tubby, Phillip Smart and the rest of the great Jamaican DUB engineers. The podcast is in superb audio quality, and even though the selection is limited to Jamaican DUB from the 1970's, there's a wide variety of styles throughout the one and a half hour of the show.

DUB DOWN BABYLON, "simply" a well balanced presentation of 1970's Jamaican DUB, which should not miss out in any self respecting collector of the better DUB Reggae podcasts.

MESSIAN DREAD UPDATE OCTOBER 16 2008

WWW, October 2008 - In the previous update, I was openly wondering as to whether I was doing a Hot Stepper or a Cool Running. Of course, asking the question is answering it and so I took a break.

Cool Runnings, after 1 1/2 month?

Greetings!

It sure feels good to be back on track. Sure, I needed the break but there is nothing better than sitting down and doing the works. After all, there's no need for a Hot Steppers because in order to do this work I need to be cool, so to speak.

I do plan to take it easy in the coming times, because I know that I'm not where I would love to be. Not yet, that is.

As I told Zeph Daniel in an interview a couple of months ago, I am facing the fact that I am what some people call "autist". I know this for several years now, and even though I didn't wanna speak about it publicly, I know that the time had come to speak out about it still.

It is because of this situation, that I simply need to create a certain environment in which I can work and produce the best. I need to live in some kind of routine, and when things mess that down I can get into a state wherein I simply do not know what to do anymore.

Of course, you cannot change the universe to make it fit. There are simply circumstances which you cannot control, but in their turn do influence your life. And I need to deal with that fact just like anyone else. However, the way I deal with it is quite different than "non-autists" would deal with it.

Anyway, I think I have managed to incorporate everything that happened to me in these last months into my life. And it sure feels good to work the works again.

Cool Runnings!
