WWW, January 2012 - From his HQ in Canada, Jesse "Dubmatix" King does not only release some really crucial music of which Dub and Reggae are definitely are definitely his specialty. He's more than helping out the producers of the music we all love so much and he does so at www.reggae-loops.com.  

Let's start with something everyone can immediately get to enrich their knowledge and soundware for the production of (DUB) Reggae music. And that "something" will turn out to be quite some thing indeed. Not in the least when we dive into the main thing: Soundware. Loops, Sample Packs.

1 GIGABYTE FREE REGGAE LOOPS AND MORE EVERY WEEK

Yes, you read that correct. Completely free, a pack of loops containing Drums, Basses, Horns, Guitars, you name it. It's bigger than a lot of commercially available packs and none of the loops in this free pack are to be found elsewhere. So even when you have a collection of commercially bought stuff, you'll need this in your soundware collection.

On top of that very generous gift, the website also provides a weekly free loop pack. 15 exclusive loops, which can be about anything. At the moment of this review, there are already over ten free packs which you can download straight from the website, without having to register yourself. You have to do that to get the 1 Gigabyte pack, but why should't you? You'll get the latest additions straight in your in-box. Or simply (un)subscribe, which we do not recommend of course.

MORE FREE STUFF

Yes, more free stuff. Under "Resources", you can find a PDF with 22 Production tricks and tips. On top of that, some links to plug-in's you can get for (almost) free, and resources for distribution. Then, at the moment of this review, it's the last day for a remix contest where you can make use of some multi-tracks or STEM to put straight into your DAW. We just think it's not the first and only remix contest. Yes, check the site at the moment you see this and find out if they have another one.

THE SOUNDWARE

Dubmatix has a lot Loop Packs available through LOOPMASTERS.com, our favorite provider of Loops and other sounds. Read our review HERE. As said, not everyone of these packs contain material stricktly for the Dub and Reggae producers. You'll find stuff for Hip Hop, Soul, Funk and Trip Hop to name just some other genres.

For users that deal with Native Instruments Maschine Kits, REGGAE-LOOPS.com has 4 different ones at the moment this review is written. As far as we could see, these four kits are different than the more common packs available through LOOPMASTERS.com.

The site also provides Native Instruments STEM Files. These are MP4 files carrying a full track and four multitracks. So the full tune, and the tune split up in four multitracks. You'll need Native Instruments TRAKTOR to use these files. When you have your own ways, your own DAW or DJ Software and want to have just the multi tracks for example in WAV format, use Audacity to convert them . Learn about that HERE.

THE SERVICES

When Sly and Robbie make use of it, well, you ca say that it is at least worth a mention. But it's way more than that. On top of the soundware and knowledge, the website also provides a Mastering service. Send in your work, and not only will Dubmatix take a listen and master the file, you will also get tips, tricks, communication about your project. Obviously this is not a free service, and prices are not set. But some top names have made use of this service. Click here to read on the website what it's all about.

THE CONCLUSION

This is a great website full of resources and services. Much is free of charge and still usable on a professional and commercial level. When you are a producer or a DJ, you will have to have this website in your favorites and check back at least once a week for a new free loop pack. We here at the Dubroom have a lot of respect and love for Dubmatix, the Number One Dub Producer in North America.

WWW, January 2021 - One vocal and two dubs, previously unreleased. Reservoir Dub opens up the archives once more and brings us another version excursion in their 2021, let's say, "Lost In Dub Revisited" series. This time, a solid hard steppers tune featuring singer Delroy Williams and no less than two Dub versions.

On the original "Lost in Dub Volume 1" compilation, also reviewed here in the Dubroom, you can already find an outstanding Dub from this riddim by Webcam Hi-Fi. It turned out to be only a taster, though. That's the first thing which comes to mind when when you listen to this vocal and it's two accompanying dub versions. No generation Gap in Conscious Roots Reggae Music, as obviously shown in this superb track.

Heartically recommended for all lovers of your better Roots Rock Reggae Music!

WWW, January 2021 - Belgian Net Label Reservoir Dub started the year 2021 with a free track from Dubmatix, the Canadian Dub producer who has worked with too many artists to mention. A track from their earlier release "Lost in Dub Part One" which is obviously reviewed here in the Dubroom, plus a alternative version that was previously unreleased.

The riddim of Permenence Dub itself is a solid steppers with some cool horns, guitars and other real instruments. It's not a re-make of 1970's Reggae, the music has a contemporary sound and that is not in the least because of the very good mixing works by Jesse Dubmatix. The previously unreleased track is way more tasteful for the lover of Dubwise, as you can hear how the Canadian brethren dubs it up heavy stylee!

WWW, January 2021 - The fifth chapter starts off with some releases courtesy VP Records and a brand new release from Ras Midas, then going over into the more heavy Roots and Dub, of which some tunes can be downloaded for free. 

Alborosie opens up, followed by a brand new release from Reggae veteran Ras Midas recently reviewed in the Dubroom. A pleasant, upfull tune with a positive message. Another veteran is Keith Hudson, we play an original Greensleeves 12" mix re-released by VP Records. An alternative version from the track "Jerusalem", also courtesy VP Records closes off the first part of the show.

Dub Creator with Ire Alien, Dubmatix, Wicked Dub Division: all the tracks can be downloaded for free from the World Wide Web. The music is reviewed at the Dubroom and links are available to download the music for free. A healthy portion of the show is reserved for, we said it before, the incredibly talented singer Jah Melody. Also included is a track from Dub Dynasty a.k.a. Alpha Steppa, Alpha and Omega's next generation of Dub.

Chapter five closes off with the vocal and dub that also closes of Italian Dub Community Showcase Volume One, which can be downloaded for free in it's entirety as well.

WWW, January 2021 - In what is his first release after ten years, Jamaican Reggae Veteran singer RAS MIDAS comes with an upfull One Drop style, both vocal and dub. From the studio's of Harry J's in 1970's Jamaica to a digital release at Bandcamp, Ras Midas a.k.a. The Rastaman In Exile been through it and that's a thing you can definitely hear.

For this release, he hooked up with producer Mike Lorello, who has worked with US based Reggae Band Morgan Heritage but also with ones like Cher and Whitney Houston. The music was provided by Larry Lange, another well known name in the general music business given the fact he's had his notations at the Billboard charts. Two veterans in their own way.

About the track, Ras Midas said in an interview: "This is a new evolution of my music. Everything cannot remain the same. I am just turning a new page in my song writing and composing and arranging. World Block Party is more contemporary reggae, at the same time keeping with my rootical message that people have known me for over the decades." Well, that actually quite the case with "World Block Party". It has the contemporary sound, but with positivity you don't always get with some contemporary music. And that definitely has to do with Roots.

WWW, January 2021 - Brand New, Good For You: all the way from Greece, we're introduced to electronic DUB Duo Konstantinos and Alexandra a.k.a. IGL and Alecho. Filled with electronic atmospherical vibes, everything on the foundation of some heavy bass and drums. Another superb release from Dubophonic for the lovers of electronic Dub.

In their own words: "It is the story of a small atomic structure and ITS journey to the stars. So significant was this molecule’s appearance it would change worlds and be the matrix of life on this planet. It is a conceptual dub album revolving around the journey of life, from the water to the stars, as it is described through the titles of the tracks, but also through the inspiring artwork." Well, that sums it up very well.

There are different moments in the album, different vibes, but everything certainly leads to somewhere. And that's not necessarily the bonus track at the end, a remix by Indamouse, even though that could very well be the case. Up for you to decide. Subsequently we go to the Netherlands, for two pre-releases from the Dubroom's own Net Label, Studio and Dub Producer.

When Vibronics and Zion Train meet, the result is a hard steppers that we've played before and play again without apology. That's the same for the excellent Netherlands based Slimmah Sound productions, featuring Sista Omi on the Zion Train Roots vinyl label.

The show ends with a selection of recently reviewed music and music to be reviewed. There's the Dubophonic Net Label with an ire vocal and version featuring Sista Sara, and a free release from the same producer Dub Cmd.

WWW, January 2021 - The second release of the year is another virtual 7" carrying two Dubwise excursions by Messian Dread. Heavy use of the effects, solid riddims, and some very interesting vocal parts form the three main ingredients of this Net Single, as usual offered to you free of charge.

Even though both tracks involve some heady duty Dub mixing, they do have their own distinctive differences. Insane Dub carries the listener into a realm where vocals drop in and out as they're spliced into a million pieces and the horns get their echo-treatment as well. So yes, it's clear where a bad man's livity leads too: total insanity. Much better to blaze up the fire and bun dem system, as is done in the second track of the virtual 7". A dangerously massive riddim where nothing is left without going through all kinds of effects, not in the least the bass itself.

It is a conceptual dub album revolving around the journey of life, from the water to the stars, as it is described through the titles of the tracks, but also through the inspiring artwork." Well, that sums it up very well.

There are different moments in the album, different vibes, but everything certainly leads to somewhere. And that's not necessarily the bonus track at the end, a remix by Indamouse, even though that could very well be the case. Up for you to decide. WWW, January 2021 - The first thing that should be said about this Showcase album by the Spanish band Hot Drop and Puppa Shan at the controls, is this: when you love your 1970's/80's Reggae, when you love your better Reggae band in analogue fashion, when you love your better Dub you simply cannot afford to not have Sugar and Spice in your collection.

The title of the album is well-chosen. Even though everything is mixed exactly the way it was done in pre-digital times, there's a wide variety of different Reggae styles. Smooth Lover's Rock, Hard Roots, pre-digital UK Roots: good vibes all over the place, that's for sure. We can only be thankful to both Hot Drop and the excellent Net Label La Famille!

WWW, January 2021 - Time for an update on the developments at both DUBROOM.org, TAPATALK.com and HEARTICALFM.com. Yes, three different websites that are all of interest to the reader and visitor of the Dubroom.

We've added several mailing lists to our contact pages. You're now able to subscribe to more specific things from the Dubroom. Go to https://www.dubroom.org/contact/lists.htm to check them all out!

At the moment this is written, a rather huge project is about to be finished. During the last months, the Dubroom's MP3 portal has underwent a significant change even though it is not directly noticeable for the casual visitor.

During the last months we've completed uploading everything that we've reviewed and was released under Creative Commons copyright. That copyright means you can re-distribute the music provided that no money is made of it and the original files are left intact. And for you it means that you can get the music straight of the Dubroom servers (or links at MEGA) so you don't have to worry about dead links.

We've also added almost every release that is no longer available elsewhere. Certain artists, producers and net labels have seen their websites disappear off the world wide web for a wide variety of reasons with the result that the free music offered on these websites have gone into the big nothing. Since that music was offered free and the Dubroom does not make any money, we've decided to add the music to what is now becoming the Dubroom Free Music Collection. This is music that otherwise would not be available to you anymore which would be a shame. We call it "Legacy of the World Wide Web".

For the historians, we've added a third element to the collection as well. We call it "Rare, Historical, Out-of-Print Choices for the Connoisseurs". It's just what it says. When you're interested in that rare stuff, like that old radio broadcast that was never released but has been recorded decades ago, you will find this interesting. Do not expect much, though. At the moment this is written, there's just one broadcast to discover but that might just change in the (near) future.

Another thing that is about to be finished even though it's not really visible at this moment, is Radio Dubroom. Currently we're uploading all the old Radio shows to MIXCLOUD.com, with the intention to have the shows available for streaming directly from radio.dubroom.org.

And there's a brand new show that comes on top of, not instead of, Radio Dubroom: "Riddims and Sounds from the Dubroom Selector". This show is broadcasted live every Thursday at Heartical FM and a week later will be available for free streaming/download straight of radio.dubroom.org as well.

During the last months, we've been very busy updating what was just a little forum at Tapatalk into basically a musical mirror of Dubroom.org. What does that mean? Well, it is our aim to have available at Tapatalk every single release we've reviewed or released ourself. Stream directly, find music easy, and even better (for us): comment on the reviews or the music itself. Registration is not required!

We think that our place at Tapatalk is also more pleasant for people with just a mobile phone instead of a computer than the dubroom.org website itself, since the website is specifically designed for use with computers. After all, the website started back in the 90's of the previous century and is still working on the hand-made templates from that time.

As said, we've got a brand new Radio Show on top of Radio Dubroom 2021. It's called "Riddims and Sounds from the Dubroom Selector", or just in short: "Riddims and Sounds". This show is different and longer than the chapters of Radio Dubroom 2021. And it's only available a week after the original broadcast, at HEARTICAL FM.

Heartical FM is an online Reggae Radio Station with a lot of different selectors and shows from all over the world. We were asked to contribute as well and we gratefully and humbly accepted this opportunity to share even more music with the world wide massive.

"Riddims and Sounds" will be broadcasted every Thursday between 9pm and 11pm, UK time. The nice thing is that with the broadcast comes the possibility to chat online with other listeners and with yours truly who strives to be there unless it is absolutely impossible. WWW, January 2021 - None of the tracks on this album were supposed to be released, but that's really or only the reason why this collection of tracks full of niceness and ire vibes is called the way it is. Coming fromn the Dobophonic Net Label straight to your musical collection. Read on for a review.

The computer on which the tracks were originally stored, was stolen by someone, only Jah knows. Fortunately, some of the music could be recovered and as a gesture towards both the thief and us, the online Dub community always looking for new music, is also released as a free Net Album by, as said, Dubophonic.

The music is well produced, that's a fact. The bass is mixed very nicely, serving as that foundation for the drums and the rest of the instruments. And the words. The riddims are catchy, you'll feel them in the style of music, when it hits you feel no pain. Recommended, and not just for DJ's and selector who will find the tunes very workable in DJ sets.

WWW, January 2021 - The second release of the year is another virtual 7" carrying two Dubwise excursions by Messian Dread. Heavy use of the effects, solid riddims, and some very interesting vocal parts form the three main ingredients of this Net Single, as usual offered to you free of charge.

Even though both tracks involve some heady duty Dub mixing, they do have their own distinctive differences. Insane Dub carries the listener into a realm where vocals drop in and out as they're spliced into a million pieces and the horns get their echo-treatment as well. So yes, it's clear where a bad man's livity leads too: total insanity. Much better to blaze up the fire and bun dem system, as is done in the second track of the virtual 7". A dangerously massive riddim where nothing is left without going through all kinds of effects, not in the least the bass itself.

Two tracks of Dub niceness for the online Dub massive, ready to be added to your play list or DJ set. From Messian Dread, with love.

WWW, January 2021 - Not without a sense of humor, not without some heavy Dub mixing: The Dubroom Net Label starts off the year 2021 with a "virtual seven inch" release containing two completely different tunes. The first one has a lot of recordings from Mad Professor's Ariwa studio's (fully licensed to the Dubroom!), the second one is played by a band laying down a very creative One Drop style.

In "Mad Professor Wants The Dub First", Messian Dread made some heavy use of Mad Professors Reel 2 Reel Reggae parts one and two (reviewed in Studio Dubroom), combining drums, bass and other instruments as well as Mad Professor's voice in what is obviously a Messian Dread Dub. 

"Ras Kitchen Wants The Boat First" contains, next to a solid Reggae rhythm played by a cool band, a lot of samples from Ras Kitchen's Sample Pack which you can download for free from Studio Dubroom. A completely different vibe than the previous track, more old skool-ish if you will, but equally dubbed heavily by Messian Dread.

For your musical pleasure in the perilous time the world finds itself in during this early 2021.

WWW, December 2020 - Selected in the last evening of the year, here is the last chapter of Radio Dubroom 2020. Ultra-long: over two hours and fourty minutes of Discomixes, Dubs, Chapter and Versions if you will. A special edition of the show too, as the selector has dug in his personal collection to present some personal favorite choices as well.

With the vast majority of the music over 35 years old, once again it has been shown how Reggae Music can hold it's ground for decades. Classic Don Carlos, Michael Prophet, Yabby You: too many to name them all. Check the playlist for that.

WWW, December 2020 - As we're approaching the end of that terrible year called 2020, here is the second chapter of Radio Dubroom. Almost two hours filled with Roots Rock Reggae in all kinds of formats: DJ's, Singers and Players of Instruments, Dub Engineers and of course the singers spreading the message of Word Sound and Power. Everything mixed nicely together with not too much effects and jingles, just enough to keep the fire burning.

When there is one thing you can definitely notice while enjoying this chapter of Radio Dubroom, it must be the enormous creativity and versatility that came out of the Jamaican studio's back in the 1970's. It is not for nothing, that virtually all of contemporary Electronic Dance Music (EDM) can trace their technical roots to the art of remixing. The elevation of the engineer behind the knobs into a performer in his own discipline. This music is not called Roots Reggae for only one reason, that's for sure.

Enjoy almost two hours of pure niceness for those that love righteous and Jah message. As said, there are significantly less jingles and sound effects in this one compare to other chapter of Radio Dubroom. So, yes, let the music tell the story. Enjoy the drum and bass lines, the words, the mixing, the vibes.
