DUBROOM ONLINE EDITION AUGUST 16-22 2010

FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, August 16 2010 - Not one, but two podcasts: both of them are well recommended as one dives into contemporary Roots and Culture mainly from the UK and EURO Dub scenes and the other is totally livicated to none other than Mikey Dread! On top of that, a brand new Messian Dread two-track release and a wonderful album by the Spanish based Emeterians.

Sure, usually Dubroom Weekly contains much more than "just" one review, a podcast and a release. However, especially those who checked out last week's interview with Jah Dawta and your's truly on the Zeph Report will have noticed that this kind of a hectic time down here.

Positively hectic, that is.

But then, you have to check out just what this is all about, in order to overstand....

Another release with two brand new, original riddims and Dubs by yours truly: another thing I was blessed to do last week. I'm boiling with inspiration and behind the scenes a project is in the making which will be released in due time. The inspiration obviously comes in a time where I was already wondering if I would make at least one tune this year but as usual I worry too much and should just realize that Jah always takes care of business so to speak.

Apart from the inspiration to produce, I am also putting a lot of effort in Radio Dubroom. Since I'm using a different technology than I'm used to do with the old Radio Dubroom as well as my live DJ shows, I have to find out a lot still but I think I'm improving. Lazy me, I have loads of jingles but I'm only using one or two. I'm not lazy in actively approaching labels, producers and artists for permission to play their music but not everyone replies, let me leave it at that. Those who do, can -as far as this website is concerned- be considered as truly loving the music and loving the music to get to the people. They don't just talk the talk but they actually walk the walk.

Ah, well, what's new? Not what I just said....

Two podcasts, and that is not at all because one of the episodes has that "dreadful" number 13. I'm not superstitious, besides my body was born on the 13th as well and I know too well just why that number is told to be "unlucky": it was one day on a Friday in which the freemasons had a defeat somewhere in their history. Or was it the templars? It doesn't matter: let them fear that number, I know Yesus and his 12 made thirteen too.

Episode 13 of Radio Dubroom 2010 deals stricktly with heavyweight Roots and Culture from the UK and the European continent. It's a podcast with a lot of bass, a lot of foundational music and a lot of upful, inspiring lyrics which is obviously springing from the Most High Himself. The other podcast, number 14, is totally livicated to the One And Only Mikey Dread: seventy-two minutes of pure Roots and Culture from the days which many preterist disdainfully call "golden age of Reggae", as if Reggae has a colonialist history and no future at all...

Ever heard of the Emeterians? To my utmost shame, I must admit that until last week I had not heard of the band. I should, though, and as soon as I did I knew that this band should be exposed to a larger audience, to which I hope to contribute a bit by prioterizing the review of their album "Change the Mood".

The album has been playing several times over here in the Dubroom, on headphones and on speakers. I'm sure that the street we reside in have been enjoying the vibes too. Blessed music for real, and not -"just"- because of the fact that the music is recorded in the very same way as that other Spanish band Hotdrop likes to record their music: traditionally analogue.

Next week, Jah willing, another edition. That edition will -again, Jah willing- be quite large. The reason for that has to do with the fact that I really have to do some things in the Outernet.

Wanna know what? Check it out!

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

MESSIAN DREAD - THUNDER AND LIGHTNING

MESSIAN DREAD - THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
DUBROOM STAR SELECTIONS RELEASE

image

WWW, August 2010 - Two brand new original thunderous Messian Dread steppers rhythms, mixed in a kind of wild style with lots of bass and phased echoings: Thunder and Lightning fe true!

Best played on a Hi-Fi set with lots of bass, preferably even with a subwoofer, these two Messian Dread mixes are obviously made for a time like this. A time, wherein it is always good to be remembered of that fact that JAH is there, because He is the Creator.

Thunder and Lightning themselves are only vague "illustrations" of the Almighty JAH Who answers to no one except with His Judgment. Yes, Jah is Dreader than Dread, a thing which is "illustrated" in the two Dubs of this release as well. To fear Him is to live, to hate Him is to die...

The two dubs are mixed in a wilder style than other Messian Dread tracks from the "Showcase" era (2006-2008). Multiple layers of instruments and effects phasing themselves in and out of the riddim, long echo's and even hardly noticeable sounds -even- a violin, all on top of a heavy heavy bassline and hard stepping drums: straight to the duppy's head!

DUBS AND DISCOMIXES FROM THE ROOTS AND CULTURE FRONTLINE

DUBS AND DISCOMIXES FROM THE ROOTS AND CULTURE FRONTLINE
RADIO DUBROOM 2010 EPISODE 13
WWW, August 2010 - This episode of Radio Dubroom 2010 takes us straight to the Roots and Culture frontline, where conscious lyrics over thunderous bass and drum lines make a difference. With singers like Lyrical Benji, Martin Campbell and King General, players of instruments like BR Stylers, the Livication Riddim Section and the Bush Chemists, and Dub engineers like Dubcreator, Dougie Wardrop and Manutension, the music ranges from brand new releases to material from well over a decade old.
The show starts with a heavyweight steppers from Conscious Sounds studio, with King General at the microphone stand. Lyrical Benji takes over with two titles, the second one perfectly mixed by the Dutch based Dubcreator. It's the first of a selection of older productions by the Amsterdam Dub Master, all of which were available for download at the "golden days of MP3.com", just like the crucial Martin Campbell tune. Crucial lyrics, and also the bridge to some more recent material from Italy and France.
Music Inna House from Italy is represented with a discomix and a dub, that has a lot of similarity with the classic Rastafari riddim by Alpha and Omega. Almost seamless, the two tracks blend into each other. By means of the, again, classic Alpha and Omega we enter into a selection of fast steppers Dubs.
The Italian Dub Collective BR Stylers is the last up-tempo steppers: one more time we get ourselves familiar with the Music Inna House collective, their music was all mixed in the Moa Anbessa studio's in Venice (Italy), just before the show closes off with a brand new free release by the UK based Dub Conductor.
This is music from the Roots and Culture front line, this is music that matters, big respect to all the singers, players of instruments and Dub engineers. Jah Love continually!

MIKEY DREAD SPECIAL
RADIO DUBROOM 2010 EPISODE 14
WWW, August 2010 - Michael "Dread At The Controls" Campbell, aka Mikey Dread was the first Jamaican Reggae Radio DJ and with that alone, his name is very rightfully written in the book of Reggae's History. His productions and releases are very impressive too, as the man was a very mighty producer and vocalist of his own as well. Radio Dubroom honors Mikey Dread with seventy-two different minutes of pure Dread At The Controls!
Even though Mikey Dread has passed away to Mount Zion to be with Jah, his legacy is enormous. Over several decades, Michael Campbell has been steadily releasing one classic after the other, struggled to get the full copyright over his material at a later stage so that he could share his works with the people the way he wanted it.

One of these ways is to provide a lot of free and legal MP3 files (all downloadable from mp3.dubroom.org), and to give permission to certain broadcasters to play this material. The 72 minutes that this podcast lasts, only contains a small portion of that huge collection.

Enjoy some authentic Mikey Dread productions, vocals and dubs: here is Radio Dubroom 2010 episode 14!

THE EMETERIANS - CHANGE THE MOOD

THE EMETERIANS - CHANGE THE MOOD
DUBROOM MP3 ALBUM REVIEW

THE EMETERIANS - CHANGE THE MOOD

WWW, August 2010 - Eleven musicians who formerly played in other bands, some of them well known in their own might, gathered themselves to create Roots Rock Reggae in the orthodox, Jamaican tradition made popular so many decades ago: analogue recording and mixing with on top conscious lyrics. Presenting the Emeterians: Roots and Culture DUB and vocals in the orthodox way!

When you include the introduction tune, "Change the Mood" contains 12 titles, wherein the whole traditional line-up is present, from the riddim section to the horns and from the backing vocals to lead voice. It's clear, though, and not just by reading the liner notes, that the band does include a Dub engineer as a member, a thing which did not used to be so when Reggae Bands predominantly were studio bands. It's just a thing which makes it clear that this is not a recording for what some preterists would call "golden age of Reggae", a term which is rejected as a whole here in the Dubroom.

Not in an annoying way, though, but it's there too: another contemporary thing, it's a thing called "rap". No, it's not all over, there's just a little bit here and there, which is fine just as long as it's not too long which is not the case with the Emeterians.

A thing which is there on the album too: skillful DUB mixing, in a way that is not just popular inna Europe and the UK but a more traditional manner which does show very clearly how right Pablo Moses was when he sang his famous "To Enjoy Reggae Music, Dubbing is A Must".

The sound is clear, even though not as clear as when everything would be done digitally. It's the charm of the analogue sound, well apreciloved, well accepted, very much respected!

"Change the Mood" is truly already a classic for the online (DUB) Reggae massive, even though the album was released this year.

Get it, Play it, Experience it!

FROM THE EDITOR

WWW, August 9 2010 - This edition of Dubroom Weekly has some very special features, a presentation of the brand new Me Zion Dread riddim "(Jah Jah) Dreader than Dread" not being the most important one. Another episode of Radio Dubroom and some very nice free and legal MP3 files and albums are not the most important either.

What is the most important, is given in the fact that last Saturday, yours truly was interviewed on the ZEPH REPORT, on worldwide shortwave radio and over the world wide web. The interview can be downloaded as a free podcast, too. And you might just want to do it, if you're interested in the private and spiritual life of not just your's truly, but also that of another well known poster on the Dubroom Message Boards, Jah Dawta.

In a rather unusual openness, it becomes clear throughout the interview that there's some very special blessings going on in our lifes, a thing which we could not speak about for a couple of years but have now been led to share with those that want to hear.

Then, there is the presentation of the brand new "(Jah Jah) Dreader than Dread" riddim, for which I've used my other artist name Me Zion Dread, a name that Jah Willing you're gonna see more in upcoming releases from the Dubroom Studio. This is the name I am led to use whenever I go into a spiritual warfare riddim and Dub style.

There's another episode of Radio Dubroom, too. You might want to check it out, as there's a track for from the brand new album "United States of Africa" by Luciano, scheduled for release this month. On top of that, the title of the podcast says it all: Radio Dubroom Presents More Blessed Vibes, in the form of heavyweight Roots and Culture, both vocals and dubs!

As usual, we've got more MP3 reviews for you as well. Next to some Cutty Ranks tunes from the 1980's, which we dug up "From the Wire", two tracks from the EURODUB and ROOTS field. More from that area comes in the form of two reviewed Net EP's and one Net Album by the Italian based Dub Collective "Dub Inna House".

Have a blessed week!

One Love, Give Thanks,
Messian Dread (Dubroom Webmaster)

RADIO DUBROOM 2010 EPISODE 12
WWW, August 2010 - The 12th episode of Radio Dubroom 2010 is filled with Roots and Culture: From a pre-release of Luciano's brand new album "United States of Africa" to some selections from the MP3.com legacy and a healthy doses of UK and EURO DUB.
Blessed vibes, indeed: it already starts with the very first title, coming with it's Dub version before the vocal part. Blessings from Jah we at the Dubroom wish to each and everyone, which also shows in the next few selections featuring Everton Blender and Luciano.
Luciano's brand new album "United States of Africa" is scheduled for release this month, but VP Records gives us a sneak preview with the excellent track Moving On, surprisingly in a real retro sound.
Luciano's voicing of a Twilight Circus riddim introduces us to the main section of this episode of Radio Dubroom 2010: music from some of the top names in the area of UK DUB and EURO DUB, and Roots. From the continent: OBF as featured in the recently reviewed "Fire Dub Revolution" compilation, plus a couple of selections from the Italian Dub Community, including BR Stylers, Moa Anbessa and Dub Engine, where from the UK we have Jonah Dan, Conscious Sounds, Disciples and Alpha and Omega.
Over one hour and twenty minutes of Pure Roots and Culture.
Blessed!

ME ZION DREAD - (JAH JAH) DREADER THAN DREAD

ME ZION DREAD - (JAH JAH) DREADER THAN DREAD
DUBROOM STAR SELECTIONS RELEASE 2010

WWW, August 2010 - Presenting the brand new Dreader than Dread riddim: a thunderous steppers in the I-riginal homegrown Hardcore DUB style, mixed and voiced in wild style with extra bass to attack the subwoofer. Two mixes, one message!

When it’s coming in the Hardcore Dub style, Messian Dread’s own version of Roots Reggae, the music is released under the name Me Zion Dread rather than Messian Dread. A subtle difference, which you can choose to ignore (or not): the music cannot be denied!

And so, once again, here is Me Zion Dread with yet another I-riginal thunderous steppers rhythm to chant down Lucifer and his Queendom with some in-your-face truth from the Heights.

The "Dreader than Dread" EP comes with two mixes: the first one is a very dubby Discomix with the full lyrics in the first part and some more heavyweight Dub mixing in the last part. The second mix, subtitled "Evil Is Nothing - Dub Chant", has even more bass and would be preferably played on Sound Systems with speakers able to deal with the thunderous bass sounds in the mix.

The lyrics deal with the fact that indeed, the Most High and Creator of all JAH is Dreader than Dread. This ancient Truth must be told from generation to generation, especially in this time wherein one after the other is losing their faith. It’s also a message to the warriors of Lucifer’s Queendom who keep on fighting Jah Jah children even though they stumble and fall every time they fight Jah children down.

More on the Dubroom Message Boards

WWW, August 7 2010 - In what was a very revealing talk with Zeph and Trish Daniel, Jah Dawta and yours truly appeared on the Zeph Report yesterday. It was a talk wherein a formerly privately matter was shared with the audience. Also, it was the official release of the brand new Dreader than Dread riddim. Given the fact that the show was also broadcasted over world wide short wave radio, a potential audience of millions may have heard it.

The show is now available as a free podcast download. It starts up with a pre-talk of about twenty minutes, then there is another hour before in the last hour we appear. We talk about the way we met and the fact that we are now getting married, we talk about the fact that two spiritual warriors see more rthan just one, which is a good thing for the both of we. Spiritual aspects are mentioned throughout the hour.

MUSIC INNA HOUSE - RIDE ON MOSES

WWW, August 2010 - Four Vocal Tracks, Four DUB Tracks: here is the 2006 production :Ride On Moses", wherein the Italian DUB Collective "Music Inna House" explores the deeper realms of DUB ROOTS and CULTURE. No problem, after all: it's their own culture in which they find themselves. Jah Culture, with blessed vibes from creation.

With three different vocalists and more than one DUB engineer, "Ride on Moses" is truly the best online thus far by the Italian based DUB collective. Strong music, strong lyrics and overall a very, very fine style of mixing, programming and playing.

Nuff niceness, that should not be ignored by the lover of the better EURODUB and ROOTS.

MUSIC INNA HOUSE - GOD IS ONE

WWW, August 2010 - In this 2002 release, mixed in Moa Anbessa's Dub Studio in Venice (Italy), we're being treated with four more crucial ones by the Music inna House DUB collective.

In the opening track, we hear a discomix in which the singer laments her observation that the "Doctor Jesus" claimed by so many of today's churches and circles doesn't seem to be around no more. And that's just one of the four titles: God is One is another too short collection of Roots and Culture in the best possible quality.

MUSIC INNA HOUSE - DUB MILITANT

WWW, August 2010 - With four titles from the 2001 début EP "Dub Militant", we're getting some more evidence of the fact that the strong EURODUB and ROOTS Movement didn't start yesterday. "Music Ina House", a Venice-based DUB Collective coming with Truth and Right in true Roots and Culture style.

The excellent opening tune comes in Discomix: "In the Beginning Was The Word and He Is Still King of Kings", taken from the first verses on John 1 from the Bible. That's not all: three more, impressive mixes are to follow. Two crucial Dub with some Jungle vibrations, and stepping Roots track in Discomix style.

By the way: the EP was mixed in Moa Anbessa's studio.

WWW, August 2010 - Memories for one, essential Reggae Dancehall history for the other: it doesn't matter who you are, when you love Reggae the two gems offered by the UK based magazine "From the Wire" should be considered two very nice surprises. From the 1980's, when Rub a Dub turned into Ragga into Dancehall into what it has become today: two classics by the man Cutty Ranks.

The unmistakable early digital sounds from 1980's Jamaican Music shows just how far contemporary Dancehall has strayed from the iriginal concept of Reggae Music: to mention the fact that the sounds in this two crucial tunes was back in the days described as totally non-Reggae where the Roots is clearly recognizable today in 2010.

TRAIN TO ROOTS - IS NOT A CRIME

WWW, August 2010 - It happens more than often: Reggae Music cultural events are a favorite target of Babylon. The important European Rototom Sunsplash festival even had to relocate from Italy to Spain because of the sufferation. The Sardinian "Train To Roots" band released their first single of the year, offered it as a free download, all to support the festival.

A cool Roots tune is not a crime, at least not for those of us that know to apprecilove some good Reggae Music. Train To Roots is not a crime either, in fact it's a crucial Band from Sardinia (Italy). It's proven right here in their first single of the year 2010, a support track for the Rototom Sunsplash Festival.

Download and play, especially when you see Sylvio Berlusconi or one of his friends.

ANTI BYPASS

WWW, August 2010 - With a splashing spring reverb, a militant steppers drum with fitting bassline, this French DUB producer and member of the DUB Addict Sound System delivered a massive piece of work with his third round of "Speaking Toys".

To those that don't know all the tech-know about Dub Studio works: "Bypass" is a mode on an effect device which basically disables that particular effect. Yes, sometimes that is necessary although it seems to be a little bit different in Anti-Bypass' studio. "Speaking Toys Round Three" makes it clear in a way all Dub Lovers with or without tech-know feel.

Nice One!

DUBROOM MOVING FORWARD

DUBROOM MOVING FORWARD
DUBROOM IN-SITE #31

image

WWW, July 2010 - With ten episodes online and the next one in the planning, it's time for an update on this brand new Dubroom project. In which direction is Radio Dubroom moving towards?

Then, there is the new Dubroom MySpace page and an upcoming release and interview by/with yours truly...

As said in the previous update, the brand new Radio Dubroom Podcast could also be seen as Radio Dubroom 2.0 since we've had a show before. But there are differences and these differences make sure that the concept has to differ from the first one, which could only be streamed at live365.com in a very lo quality stream.

At live365.com we could basically play whatever we wanted, since there was a copyright contract and royalties were paid. However, prices have increased to a level which not possible for a non-profit website like the Dubroom to afford.

The Dubroom has permission to play a lot of music on the podcast, not just music which is reviewed on mp3.dubroom.org. We work hard to get more permission too, but in the meantime the catalogue out of which we can play already contains several thousands of tracks.

A lot of the music is available through the CreativeCommons copyright, which basically means you have to give credit to the producers/artists and not make money when you play a tune on your podcast. As you can see on mp3.dubroom.org, there are a lot of Net Labels releasing more than crucial material, especially in the UK and EURO DUB and ROOTS scene.

On top of the CreativeCommons music, the Dubroom also has a lot of free and legal MP3 files reviewed and linked to. Sometimes, the music is even available as a pre-release. We are also allowed to play that music in the shows.

We've joined a number of promo-lists, for example VP Records which has a long history dating back to the early days of Reggae in Jamaica and RadioDirect, a Canadian organization specialized in providing crucial music to you.

Since a large portion of Dubroom Radio is and will probably be filled with material from the European and UK based Roots/Dub scene, we are actively seeking permission to play music that we're actively promoting too. Alpha and Omega, Vibronics, Conscious Sounds Studio have already graciously given their permission for which we're ultimately thankful!

The Dubroom releases the podcasts via http://dubroom.podbean.com/, where we're also building an archive of Net Albums released under the CreativeCommons Copyright. This, however, is a project which will not be really interesting until at least a year from now.

All in all, hopefully you enjoy the podcasts and keep tuning in.

For those that like to know, we also recently logged in at Myspace.com and tried to overcome over a year of emails et cetera, updating the profile and a little bit more things. Oops... Anyway, it's updated now at http://www.myspace.com/messiandread

Also, expect -Jah Willing- a brand new release by yours truly: the Dreader than Dread riddim. It will -again- Jah Willing be played on the Zeph Report upcoming Saturday, where Zeph Daniel will have a talk with me about my music and my personal life. What have I been doing these last years and didn't want to talk about? Check it out at http://zephreport.com/.

WWW, July 2010 -Presenting the brand new “Dreader Than Dread” riddim by Me Zion Dread (Messian Dread): a heavyweight track in Messian Dread’s own “Hardcore DUB” style, which means heavy steppers drums, an unorthodox bass-line and subsequent chord progression, everything intensly mixed in DUB style. The riddim is scheduled to be released early august, but here you can already download a pre-release in 128 Kbps MP3 format.

DUBROOM MP3 REVIEW

Reasoning in Dub

WWW, August 2010 - Even though a Dub from this track was released on the Net Album "Reasonings in Dub", this discomix containing the full lyrics and a Dub version was never before available.

The music is mixed in demo style, where -before the Dub part arrives- there's not much mixing going on and the music basically flows along with the vocals. The vocals were not yet pre-mastered which becomes rather audible here and there, but the positive message will probably compensate that.

The dub is mixed in the tradition of 1970's Rockers, incliuding a melodica lick, even though it's clear that this is an all-digital production.

Showcase

WWW, August 2010 - Another mix was released on the "Showcase" album, released for Jah Mark's record label, and a dub on the Net Label release "Reasonings in Dub", but here is the hard and rough demo version of what is the producer's favorite track of "Showcase".

The mix is obviously different than the previously released, but -to those familiar with the track on "Showcase"- it's clear that the music and lyrics match quite well and lead the mixing in a significant way. Not all riddims kind of lead the engineer but does one definitely does.

Over five and a half minutes of pure chanting down the Queendom of Lucifer: Babylon!

Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear

WWW, August 2010 - This previously unreleased Dub Plate from Alpha and Omega shows once again what the Heavyweight UK DUB Duo can do: this deep Roots Reggae riddim brings Gregory Isaacs back to that vibe in which many were introduced to the "Cool Ruler", as they say, "back in the days"...

The tempo is cool, the bassline rule, the voice of Gregory Isaacs placed in strategic places, along with some mystical back ground vocals. With the original version available on the album Trample The Eagle And The Dragon And The Bear, this more-than-excellent Heavyweight Dub Mix makes the Cool Ruler ride again, definitely more than just an appendix to the crucial Alpha and Omega album as well.

DUB ENGINE - RUDE BOY (PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED!)

WWW, August 2010 - Freshly from their studio in Bologna, with some very heavy bass and pumping steppers drum perfectly mixed by Nicolo Tucci along with the conscious and skillful vocals by Sabrina Ferro: A Crucial Discomix you can't refuse!

There's a lot to mention about "Rude Buy", and the first is that this is a very impressing track. Given the fact that it's previously unreleased, this one is very promising and definitely creates a hunger for more to come in this crucial style.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - FIRE DUB REVOLUTION

WWW, August 2010 - With 500 hard copies pressed, this free and legal online release by the crucial FRENCH DUB RELEASED NET LABEL even has some bonus tracks attached. Yes, here is another compilation of Dub tracks in several Dub styles, all of them more than recommended and beyond!

"Fire Dub Revolution" is definitely one of the most interesting releases by the FDR, which says something given the constant quality of the music the Net Label has blessed the Online Dub Reggae Community with already. It took the label one year more than they expected, but it definitely paid off musically. Hopefully, it will also pay off financially for the label even though French Dub Released has a non-profit nature: They did press 500 hard copies of the album which -at the time this is written- is about to be available for purchase.

Let's take a look at some names of the album: Webcam Hi-Fi and I-Plant, Together Brother Sounds, Jacin: The Fire Dub Revolution is massive. The album is very well compiled and sequenced, with all kinds of different styles following each other. Every track is Roots Reggae Dub, whether it's played by musicians or programmed by a producer. Vocals dropping crucial messages, consciousness galore which is another necessary ingredient for a True Roots compilation.
